Re: '58 (nash) rambler american family project
That's ALOT of trimming out there, will you put some inner wings back in to build strength back in? it sure was, lol. it'll get a tube brace from the bulkhead somewhere strong (with a roll cage like spreader plate) going forward to where the suspension crossmember mounts to the chassis rails. there...

Re: '58 (nash) rambler american family project
that's the other inner wing/s out of the way and the strut top bit too both sides. also we removed the engine bay side of the heater assembly. it all needs a big grind up now then some welding of edges together for strength. the engine bay's much wider now, we'll need to have a measure up to see if ...

Re: '58 (nash) rambler american family project
the column/steering wheel etc is out of the way now. i've left the column shift lever and rod/tube just tucked inside the car for now. we're going to try and cobble together a linkage to work the auto box from it so it looks more 'stock', lol. i did the same when i put the 440/727 in my '65 dart yea...

Re: '58 (nash) rambler american family project
we cut through the column above the steering box as it's set up for front steer and the steering arms have to go rearwards to keep the ackerman angle somewhat correct. we'll use one of the suzuki jeep boxes i have in stock as they work front or rear. the column will get a bush turned up to keep the ...

Re: Dom's 66 Coronet 500
that looks great, i'd be well happy with that.
on those tv programs they steam the trim and it tightens it up. if you have one of those handheld steam cleaners maybe give it a go?

Re: '58 (nash) rambler american family project
today after checking the inner wing/chassis area we decided to make a bit more room. there was no way the big block would fit between the bulges of the inner wings where the upper wishbones bolted up.
so........ before and after, lol.

Re: '58 (nash) rambler american family project
cheers Dave, yes it'd need to be some kind of jumbo press/folder to put tight 90 degree bends into 1/2" steel plate that's for sure. today we got all the hodge podge of parts together, well we did after some relieving of the new steering arms to clear the caliper brackets anyway. then with the ...

Re: '58 (nash) rambler american family project
ashley's axle came complete with all the steering arms etc whereas mine is pieced together from parts. so although we could've used the pair available and sorted ash's later it made sense to do them now. we sorted a lump of 1/2" plate and drew around them before cutting them out with slitting d...

Re: '58 (nash) rambler american family project
today we dissassembled both front hubs and ashley's axle. we cleaned the surface rust from the discs with a twist knot cup wheel on the grinder, vicious things they are. odd wires fly out and dig in you, even through clothes. anyway the hub swap was straightforward except the inner seals were about ...

Re: Rob & Stu's 69 Sport Satellite
i'd do as blue says and give them another 1/4 turn. then check how much more compression the lifter has. as long as it's roughly in the middle of it's travel you're not going to hurt it.

Re: Rob & Stu's 69 Sport Satellite
i agree with the lack of preload, i thought the same when reading this but blue beat me to it. i wouldn't be so worried about the 20/50 though, maybe 10/40 would be a good compromise?

Re: '58 (nash) rambler american family project
yeah, sometimes the simplest jobs are the biggest ballache matt, lol. i've got a cheap hand pump vacuum bleeder for brakes, it makes it an easy one man job. those steering wheels can seem like they're welded on sometimes too, been there myself. after moving the old lathe over the road today i had a ...

Re: '58 (nash) rambler american family project
monday we started assembling the front spindle/hub/ brakes. the used ford round back spindles had inner bearing/seal spacers pressed on for whatever hubs were on them. these needed pulling off (with some heat) and then turned down into a thinnish sleeve. this was because the hubs were for a disc con...
