Identification Tag

Post by DaveD »

Hello - just removing rust and grime from my 1970 Barracuda K member and found this tag. Does it have any significance? I am no expert and this is the first time I have seen a welded tag on a K member, but have only stripped 3 in my life.
Thanks
Dave

I know that whilst you can physically fit a "B" body "K" frame to an "E" Body, the actual Steering box mounting is set at a slightly different angle.

Therefore, logically, it must be a specific identifier for that purpose...I am sure all the numbers will be documented somewhere ion t'interweb...

I just came across something about this the other day. The tags are usually round and commonly known as coins (no doubt because if its a Hemi item its ka Ching!) The two digits are the last two numbers of the part number for the K frame, so probably used by line workers to get the correct frame for each particular car. I've never seen one personally so possibly they were only used after a certain date. All this comes from the internet so may contain some inaccuracies...

Sometimes tags are used to identify the part on the production line, as Blue said, usually indicating the last two digits of the part number. In this case, 52 is the K-frame code found on the Broadcast sheet. Part number for 1970 318,340,383 1970 E-body K-frame is 3583052. The same frame was used on 1971 318, 383, 440, B-body with revised part number 3583100 but still identified on the K-frame and the Broadcast Sheet as '52'.
