Got room for any more Speedfest pics?
Tho this is the 6th Speedfest, and we've been to them all, this was the first that we were able to bring both cars. A bit extravagant, taking two cars and no passengers, but i thought it worth it as Derek had organised a great parking area that we didn't want to look to 1/2 empty, plus the parade laps that would benefit from as many cars as poss.
Topped up the gas in both cars before meeting at Paul’s (61 Impala) and got away from Hitchin just before 7.30…. about ½ hr later than planned.
No hold ups tho all the way to Brands hatch and pulled into the entrance about 8.45.
Getting in seemed a bit easier than previous years, when it’s always seemed like the staff at the entrance didn’t have a clue, except I did find it strange that ALL the people I saw checking tickets and needing to speak to the driver were stood on the right hand side, ie the wrong side for a LHD car. You’d think someone would have thought of that for an American car event
Once in tho we had a great place for the club to park, and Derek did a good job of getting a row of Plymouth b-bods together alongside, JC, Steve and Andy. Well, until we returned from the parade lap when it all went to pot
Talking of which, the lap was fun with rows of people lining the route as we drove to the circuit from our parking area. We actually had 2 laps and managed to get a bit more speed on the 2nd lap, up to around 50 just before we had to leave. I was taking it a bit easy tho as I noticed, just as we got onto the circuit, that the trunk lid on the Plymouth wasn’t shut, so was a bit worried what it would look like if it raised up on the way round…. Probably not as daft as having your throttle cable come adrift at the start of the first lap, eh Al
Didn’t get to see much of the racing this year, but from what we did see walking round the pits, there didn’t seem to be as many American-type classics as previous years, like Cobras, Tigers, Mustangs? Maybe we just missed them…
Anyway there was plenty to see elsewhere….
Apologies to JC for leaving without picking up our engine stand that he’d lugged all the way there for us, but Paul was keen to get away before the M25 got too busy.
Talking of which, and with some advice from Roy ‘Slowhand’, we managed to avoid the queues on the M25 approaching the tunnel by joining the M25 at J1A rather than J3 (A20) like we usually do. I’d recommend it to anyone travelling back towards the Dartford Crossing as there always seems to be miles of slow traffic between the A20 and the tunnel on the way back from this event.
There is a bit more to this tale but i'd better put some pics up before everyone drifts off....
Sorry for any duplicates of pics already posted but hopefully some different angles at least...

Re: Got room for any more Speedfest pics?
Where was I, oh yes, as with many on here I suspect, our fuel gauge, in both cars, only goes to a little over ¾ when full, so when we got to Brands Hatch and it was on a little over ¼, we thought we’d top up on the way home, although it probably had nearer ½ tank. But when I went to remove the filler cap, it would not budge. Four of us tried (we had some tools but nothing of any use for this) but could not rotate it without rotating the filler neck in the tank.
It worked ok when I filled up on the way but now it didn't want to know. Somehow the extra rubber we’d put in there to prevent fuel spilling out when full, was stopping it turning now, maybe vacuum, maybe heat, or just friction.
Only option was to try and get home on 1/4 or with a bit of luck, nearer ½ a tank. No problem, should be easy, I hear you say. Well we thought so, so took it easy on the way back oop north to Hitchin.
Managed to get back to Paul’s with the gauge showing barely a gnats over empty, where we were going to get the cap off. Finally managed to get it off with an oil filter wrench around the filler neck to stop it rotating and a pipe wrench on the cap so I started her up to go get some fuel at the petrol station ½ mile up the road, and after 10 seconds of running it spluttered and stalled, so the empty end of the gauge is actually pretty accurate!
Pretty unlucky to be stuck unable to get the cap off but infinitely more lucky not to have run out before we did!

Superb photos, nice variety of classics, thanks for sharing.
Re: Got room for any more Speedfest pics?
Great photos as usual Rob, you were very lucky to get as far as you did. Could you have taken the fuel pipe off the carb to depressurise the whole system then undone the filler cap.
Are we there yet dad ..... 10 to the gallon but worth it.
