Re: Blue's Valiant
Ever since I put the crossflow Radiator in the car I've had an issue with keeping the water in it at a constant level, It always seemed to need topping up. I finally got around to properly investigating it last week, a pressure test showed a small leak on the bottom hose which I nipped up, that made no difference. Thinking a bit more about it I decided it should probably have an expansion tank, a mate turned up with one he'd saved from a John Deere buggy he had scrapped. I piped it up and filled it to the second mark and filled the rad right up to the cap. When the engine is hot it half fills the tank and when it cools down it gets sucked back into the rad and the level returns to the second mark. This seems to have done the trick and the mechanical temp gauge seems much more sensitive now which is nice....

Re: Blue's Valiant
good idea with the expansion tank/bottle blue. if you wanted to 'hide' it a bit in the past i've masked a 1/2" strip top to bottom and painted them black. they don't look so modern then but the strip lets you see the level still.
neil.

Good idea, I need to do this. Just have to find a suitable bottle....
Re: Blue's Valiant
There are plenty of aluminium ones on eBay if that floats your boat...

Have a look at the MGB expansion tanks. They are brass under the black paint and a nice oval shape that can be polished up to a mirror finish. I had one chromed a few years back too.

Hmm, some of those aluminium ones aren't as expensive as I thought they might be. Were the MG ones used on Midgets as well ? I have a friend with a shed load of Midget spares....
