Engine bay tidy up

Post by Derek »

As most of us are staying in I thought I would tidy up the engine bay on the Charger, it's not had a proper clean since the fire in 2011. the first few are from before I started, more to follow as I do it, there's no rush as it's not going anywhere soon.

I thought it looked pretty good before you started and you had posted the pictures the wrong way round.

The workmate belonged to my Dad, Liz bought me a new one years ago but I refuse to chuck the old one out.

Matt, I've neglected the engine bay for a few years now so I thougt I would take the opportunity to do it now. I'm not going to go to mad on it, I did think about pulling the engine out, but that thought didn't last long.

I did a little more today just to try and stop the boredom setting in. I'll paint the enging at the weekend when it's a little warmer. [-o<

Looked nice before you started and will look super now. Nice work.
Although I think you are brave breaking all those perfectly-sealed-gaskets. Hope you have more luck sealing rocker covers than me ! Just done one and I can still hear the 'tssss.......' of a drip from something !

Morgan, the rocker cover gaskets have been there a very long time, they have been on and off a few times now, they were given to me by an old member called Neil, at the time he gave away a few for people to try before he started selling them.

Is that VHT on the manifolds Derek? How long does that stay on?

Autosol on the inlet,I’d be reaching for the electric polisher. Last time I did my Slot mags I managed to cover everything in black flecks and polish and it took all day, rewarding but made my back hurt. Alloy has a lovely texture when polished 😎

last time we did our cast manifolds, we used VHT, but the cast-iron version:

Seems to stay looking good for a few years :thumbright:
