BTW , that's the most interesting story i've ever seen regarding a 6 pot , normally don't bother reading past the first sentence.

how to spot when your wings were made.
half moon cut out on inner lip of wing right near front of car near the indicator indictaes its a VJ onwards wing i.e wrong for my car
and
round bonnet bump stop is mounted on a trangular section that is rounded in to meet the inner wing at 90 degrees
and the bump stop is bolted to a pressed in raised section
that indicates that the car is a july 71- feb 72 car
later cars just had a flat diagonal section of metal here

slow progress
At the weekend we went to see a blokey at Think Automotive.They specialise in plumbing for cars and are MOCAL agents. Told him i wanted to plumb in my carb, and was happy to invest in any bodge he could come up with.
see i wanted to keep the original hard line that is part of the car and it has a threaded adaptor on the end.
the carb just has a barb fitting so i needed to get from metal threaded adaptor down to a barb fitting and then 5/16 rubber hose to carb.
so if ya going to bodge something you may as well do it properly with bits that cost rather than stuff you found in a tin in the bottom of the tool chest.

how many adaptors can one man use in 1 hose....
i particularly like the red bit
next we attack the inlet outlet manifold combination like a man possessed.
1 bolt out
2 bolts out
3 bolts out
4 th bolt rounded off
can't find grinder
hacksaw and hammer and chissel
not happy
anyway comes apart
and more not happy
what is this we find
damn damn damn
the exhaust manifold stove box is open to the air
stupid bloody arrangement.
so options
1) buy extractors
2) get a steel plate bolted on the exhaust manifold to blank it off.
3) weld it shut.......its cast iron
115 mm by 75mm chunk of scrap needed.
gonna have to make a gasket up any tips on what kind of material would be handy
i already have lots of exhaust paste.
PS never buy a vaccum from goodmans they are rubbish

What's more it's a heated plenum, specially designed by Chrysler Australia to help warm up the engine on those chilly mornings out in Alice Springs.
Why don't you mount the Goodmans vacuum cleaner under the bonnet, wrap it up in shiny turbo wrap to stop it from melting, shove the vacuum pipe over your old carb, reverse the polarity of the motor in the vacuum cleaner and Bob's your uncle.
Turbo power for the price of a couple of wire ties.
You would look very smart driving that wearing your old school cap.
Even better if you made yourself a nice replacement Acker Bilk beard out of fluff that came out of the hoover bag when you reversed the polarity.
You could keep your real beard in the drawer, just in case you needed it.
And may I say what an excellent report Dave, keep up the good work.

used to be some kind of flap in there controled by a bi metal strip and a counter weight.

Ivor its reasonable idea (the plenum heater.!!!)
but why????
if the car was of european origin i could undertsand it
but even in the most humid of climes i can't see that manifold icing up
the other idea would involve cutting the bonnet, thats a big no no,
and i'd have to spray the vaccum hot mustard
and if i do that i'll have no money left for my Broquet fuel catalyst and
that special trumpet shaped exhaust for negaitve supercharging.....
Acka is welcome to the hoover though.

I think that is good case for extractors mate, unless they did a better designed manifold than that one?
I guess you could plate it but having the bolted together probably provided some extra support that won't be there if you disconnect them. But if you were to plate it and then bolt through then there would still be heat transfer from the manifold to the inlet.
So if they did a different manifold that was kept seperate then use that instead, otherwise it's header time.
Or just bolt it all back together.
