hey mick like a lot off people on here take the huff at my comments when in reality i am not decrying what you are trying to achieve, but its a case off been there done that and when you have run a car with slicks you soon realize that the buzz in this sport is in the launch then hangin on as the car starts swaying about on the slicks at the top end, makes you feel alive, to me feathering the throttle off the line is Bananarama! and so is burning the tires away to the 1/8 mile,Mick70RR wrote:Dunc, my 60 foot came down almost 1.5 tenths with drag radials compared to Coopers. There's plenty of similar cars on here running slicks with 60 foot times no better than mine.Cannonball wrote:yes he does but through hp and torque once the car is rolling not through the car hooking up,his 60ft is crap in my opinion its a totally pointless exercise running anything on a car up the drag strip other than a slick, the street eliminator boys are a different ball game their cars/chassis are set up to shock the tire in to action,Kev wrote:Mick's advice is all you need thenAnd he runs the numbers
wake up smell the coffee keep your street tires and buy slicks for the track the end off,
There's just no choice of 15" street tyres for these cars. Their all designed to last 50000 miles and they are scary in the wet. If there was a grippy street tyre I'd use it.
basicaly if my car,s dont hook off the line i may as well abort the run the car will not pull the no,s back in through power alone,
your runner should be runnin 11.70s at that mph runners have a big enough boot/trunk to fit 2x 15" slix in there
use it,

Dunc, I don't think my car is capable of those sort of times. All the mph vs et times you read about are based on automatics, 4 speed cars always mph better because once they're off the line all the engine power is being put down, i.e. no loss through the converter.
I still think there's an 11 in it though without slicks.

I disagree Mick, as an ex 4 speed racer I can assure you the launch on slicks is something else. You would have to be dropping the clutch at 5 grand plus to avoid bogging with that sort of grip, and leaving with the front wheels in the air straight into the 11's. That sort of behavior is murder on parts with a heavy car and you would break the 8 3/4" for sure.

That's one of my concerns, already broke an axle shaft with the radials.Blue wrote:I disagree Mick, as an ex 4 speed racer I can assure you the launch on slicks is something else.
