Job D Day next week.......

Post by Dart Vader »

Well, the die has been cast

I will find out early next week if I still have a job post xmas

This process started in July, then it went to September they they delayed it until October to suit business needs, then November and now end of Decemeber, again to suit the business. Pretty cruel and insensitive of them I my view, we don't know whether to look for jobs now or will they put it off again etc

Getting mixed messages from the boss as he's been talking to me about events in January and plans for next year etc. to be honest I'd rather he not say anything than give me a potentially false sense of hope.

One of three of us will go so it's going to be a sheet xmas for one of us, we all have kids etc I've got 4, another has 2 and the other just had his first.

What does my head in is the way the company is congratulating itself on buying yet another vineyard and chateau play thing. one of us will lose their job whilst the multi multi millionaire family owner plays wine grower. Grrrr

Big turn down in the Oil Patch here in Norway (and globally). Statoil and the other operators have canceled all the Semi-Submersible work for next year and beyond. Mega expensive Intelligent Completions (what I do, no laughing. :D ) are getting dumped for simple and cheap Completions. To top if off the Company I work for just bought out a major competitor and will not be needing both Companies Intelligent Completion products. As a Scot working in Norway and moving back to Scotland puts me in a worrying position for 2015/16.

Thanks guys

My boss is OK, which makes me think he wouldn't say those things if I'm the one going but I guess you never know do you, not until the deed is done.

I could go to Sierra Leone or Dubai but neither would be a first choice, been there done that

Prefer a UK job again really

Dubai is sales working with UN and such like

Sierra Leone is Enola security ! Keeping the doctors safe and other business people there, still lots of kidnapping and such going on. Some villages have kidnapped doctors to treat their people. Plus protecting the medicines etc

To be honest the Sierra Leone job is more fun

The Ebola thing doesn't bother me, but I love working in chaotic places, just makes your brain work better.

Money is near enough the same but the buzz is better

Dubai would be ok, but it's just a bit false as countries go. It's all money money money

At least in SL I'm making a proper difference

I had a blast out there during the war, the people are lovely and really love the Brits. In Dubai you are just another expat
