rebuild,initinal start up.
hi there, have the engine fitted and allmost ready to fire up,pete has offered to help me to prime the oil pump and set up the ignition timeing ect.`he said its best to replace the stock distributor <with> and to get a electronic ignition.i have a new msd distributor, ready to run <pro>.have ordered a blaster coil 2 and a set of ht leads to suit from mark.but there is 2 things i need to find out.regarding how to bypass the ballast resister,on the msd instructions i have they dont tell you how to do this.read some where that you connect both wires together from the ballast resister?also the 3 wires that come from the msd distributor, the black one is the earth, the orange one goes to the coil, negative, and the red one is live, have been told that this can go to the blue wire on the bulkhead connecter?not to good with the electrics, but just trying to get it right.any help with this please,or a diagram would help.many thanks, mick
2 wire ballast
get 2 piggy back lucas connectors
crimp them onto 1 3 inch bit of fat ish wire
plug them onto the ballast one end to the other
plug what was on the ballast onto the piggyback connectors
piggy back connectors come in the halfods small box of mixed connectors
4 pin ballast
do the same with 2 loops
your coil already has a positive supply to it, don't know what colour it is but it is now 12volts all the time due to your bypaswork.
on the other side at the - will be your tach feed and orginally the wire to the points
need MSD model and blaster model and the MSD site has full diagrams for all cars
you need the mopar points one for the supply details
and the mopar electronic igntion one for the connectivity to the dizzy
at a guess based on a 6A
fat red goes to 12 volts
thin red goes to 12 volts switched
green and purple goes to the electronic dizzy
fat black is earthed
white is tied up (its the points one)
and you have 2 that go to the coil
can't remeber what they are...
diagrams from MSD will spell it out.. i.e don't trust my colours
