Finally ran my slingshot (non-mopar content)

Post by paolo_mangusta »

Hi

haven't been on here much since I sold the Dart and the Barracuda project stalled, but did manage to get a couple of half passes in my PITA slingshot project last month. Someone made a vid so I thought I'd stick it up just in case anyone's interested:

never sure whether it would be allowed at the Nats - IIRC they usually say no open wheel cars but there's always a few running anyway!

Cheers

Looks good Paul! :thumbright:

Did you have a fuelling issue as it took of well, but sounded like it was missing mid track?

cheers guys - it's not so much a fuelling issue as an oiling one - had quite a bit of oil spraying in my face and backed out of it, which then fouled the plugs :D

Traced it to a faulty oil pump - the pressure relief valve was stuck so it Bananarama! about 120psi and spraying through the rockers until it was filling the rocker covers up. adding a windage tray as well to help stop it churning the oil up.

Fixed now, but sadly too busy moving to go again tomorrow (or do Dragstalgia as was the plan)

It's a total pain, my first time with mechanical injection and methanol

Mind you, it's going to be bloody quick when I get some proper passes in...

Great to see it run there, and a pretty professional video too!

I enjoyed that!

yes, it definitely gets the heart rate going! I've never been to North Weald before - it's a great event though it's probably a bit bumpy for a car with no suspension ;)

Sadly the only other car event there this year (apart from today) clashes with the Nats. But I'm definitely going to get along to more days there next year, it's a really good day out and a nice mix of cars.

The slingshot isn't like anything else I've ever driven, I thought it would be a bit like having the 340 from my Dart in a Caterham, but running on alky it's a beast - it's more like strapping yourself into a bomb and voluntarily setting it off :D
