Democracy shamocracy
I know I'm a cynic but we all know councils are run on backhanders.
Some building firm no doubt greased some palms

It's a shame of course, but will this mean the Nats will be busier in the future?

let's hope "our" event doesn't get binned out to a rubbish later date in the year so Pod can use that weekend for someone else.

just fear a bit of a monopoly on drag racing forming

I don,t think the Nats has to worry ,it's the lifestyle events that seem to work ...who knows what will happen but hopefully it will not happen before I. Get me car finished..you can not blame the track owners building land is worth a lot more than a bunch of cars turning up once a year

Talking to people in the "know" and staff at Shakey he has been trying for planning permission for a good few years, but due to a "member" of the council not liking him, it didnt get passed, we can only assume that someone new has started at the council and the need to house our migrant friends has played a big part in the decision. Remains to be seen if Shakey or rather the owners decide to honour the 2016 dates or whether the lure of cold hard cash change their minds

As Shakey is only 30 miles from me, understandably, it will be a bitter blow when the track shuts. I heard the land ( 10 sq.miles ) was worth 30 million, which, is a lot to turn down. I expect the thought of 3500 council taxes was forefront in the council's minds ( or should that be small minds!).
If anyone has tried driving around Stratford-upon-Avon, particularly, at peak times lately and I was commuting to Warwick for a while, then, the thought of all those extra cars in the area is nightmarish.
Great shame for the other leisure clubs on the airfield too.
I'll have to move my caravan as well, if I can stop bits falling off that is !
Let's hope we get 2016 at least and possibly more, they can't build that many houses overnight.

The deal will take at least a couple of months to go through. They could run the season and allow the surveyors etc in to do their job during the week - maybe.

Shakey's website says it's Business as Usual 2015 then lists 2016 events. Not sure if that has changed??

My favourite track, very sad, been going there on & off for years, my earlest pictures from there (Long Marston) are dated 1978.

Obviously a decision based on economics, ask yourself what you'd do in their place. ;)

On a slightly brighter note, Perranporth airfield just down the road from me is starting up weekend RWYB events with timing gear, so at least we'll have something just down the road now.

I don't blame the owner at all.............I'd be looking at Millions in the bank and thinking why not as well.

Its the fact that nobody (locals or users) of the airfield wanted it to happen.......and the council ignored it all.

If it had been that the locals hating the noise and the council wanting houses I could of accepted the decision.

& there's an interesting point in itself, wonder how many of the complainants now wish the the drag strip was staying rather than a massive housing estate appearing, could this be a case of being careful what you wish for, or even Karma? ;)

Yeh, I know a guy who lives in Long Marston village, he doesn't have a problem with the dragstrip and sometimes attends events. They definitely won't want more houses in the area.

Few people on FB saying they have spoken with Shakey and all 2016 dates are on. Fingers crossed.

Shame about this, we had the same thing happen here , it was near the newer airport and everybody moved that direction only to have them complain about the noise, yes the noise near an airport, now it is a parking lot for the airport.

Now we have top drive for 2.5 hours ,dam near run out of gas getting there to the nearest road race track a very nice new one but still way out in the eastern plains of Colorado, it has really put the kibash on track days that is for sure.

And as I have read on this thread, money talks ,BS walks :mytwocents:

I feel your pain
