Boiler recommendation

Post by Bryan »

I think maybe a few boys on here are in the heating game.

We are going to need to replace our regular boiler at home in the near future, we currentley have a Potterton Suprima.

What manufacturer is king these days? It used to be Worcester Bosch but have the others had to up there game.

Any recommendations appreciated.

I asked the same question a few years back and Worcester was a pretty unanimous recommendation. It has been an excellent boiler as long as service intervals are adhered to.

We had a Vailant fitted some time ago, very quiet, very efficient, very reliable.

I guess it’s like anything else the top boys will be constantly leap-frogging for no.1

Recently I have heard Worcester and Vaillant recommended

Worcester-Bosch.

Condenser boilers 90% efficient compared to 60% old school burners.

Be careful they haven't rigged the emmisions test though?

I mainly fit Baxi boilers, much prefer them to the Worcester Bosch, but that's personal preference, the Worcester is still a good boiler, vailant are good too just usually a bit more expensive

We had a new one installed at our old house, it was a Baxi, it was faultless just quite large in size. Also you could enclose it so you can hide it in a wood frame.

Think about location though, not that it matters now but if we stayed there I would have put it in the loft/outbuilding out of the way to allow more space in the kitchen.

Now we have a Worcester Bosch oil boiler which is also great, the AGA keeps the house warm though so not yet put the central heating on :D

Suprima is a system boiler. Most people on here will have a combi nowdays. Are you wanting to just replace the boiler or convert to a combi and get rid of the water tanks and cylinder. How many radiators are in the house ?

In all honesty, they're all good, manufacturing processes are much better than they've ever been and even an entry level boiler can be exceptionally well made.

All installers prefer their own favourites, look at Marc with his Baxi's, don't mean it'll be any better or worse than any other brand, it's just he's used to that manufacturers products and finds them a good product.

More important is how the after sales service is. You can have the best German tech with a decade long warranty but if no one answers the helpline and the engineer they send out is an arse then it ain't worth jack

Do some research online, go on a few forums, ask a few installer.
Do you have a plumber or gas engineer now? Ask him what he recommends.

Our most popular sales right now are Ideal Logic Plus's, Main Eco's, GlowWorm Easicoms, all combis, but no particular brand loyalty.
The Worcesters are still fairly popular, as are the Vaillants, Veissmanns too.
Just what our customers are asking for.

we had a Ferrolli once

I probably wouldn't have another due to the time it took to get parts and their cost

it appeared to be the Alpha Romeo of combi-boliers

pretty damn good not to expensive for what you actually got

until it was abused by a tenant and went wrong (cracked vessel/damaged electronics)

then it took a while to get the parts and they cost quite a bit

of course as landlord it was all my fault....

I've had to use Baxi Heateam a few times over the last couple of years and despite the fact that the engineers have been very good the rest of their customer support structure is dire. If you value a speedy fault resolution and efficient communication then look elsewhere!
