1966 Belvedere TowBar - any ideas?
Evening!
Been lurking here for a while, but now getting my finger out on a multitude of jobs on my '66 Belvedere wagon.
One of which is getting a tow bar sorted. I've trawled the net but not seen any clues as to design - anyone have one/had one or any photos of a mid-sixties b-body tow bar set up?
Having fitted a few kits to modern cars, am thinking of using a modern set up and making up brackets for the Belvedere chassis legs, but any clues would be helpful.
Thanks in advance!
Gerry

Welcome to the Club and the message board, Gerry.
With reference to the tow bar, I had one but never fitted it to a "B" Body and sold it with the car in question.
It was designed to bolt though the Chassis rails in 2 places on each side.
When you get the drill out you will be horrified how thin the metal is so the ones I have seen use full width spacers that go through the Rails so that they are more solid and do not get compressed / distorted when the bolts are tightened.
All the best, put some pictures of the car up!

I hope the pics help, it's pretty basic as you can see, it tows my little caravan with ease and does not flex at all.
Do you need pics of where mine bolts to the underneath of my Charger.

Not sure how that pic got there so I've removed it, will get the other pic tomorrow.deppmobile wrote:That's really helpful, thanks!
If you get a chance, a couple of shots of where it bolts up would help - I was crawling under it today so have a feeling about how I can make it work.
Will I need a pair of those flares to fit it?

I used to pull one of them Portafold caravans behind my old GTS Dart, my grandfather had it from new & I bought it off him after had to give up driving. They have no insulation whatsoever, so freezing cold in the winter or baking hot in the summer.
You can't have too much power, only a lack of traction!
