The Barracuda was having starting problems before I bought it and the owner thought it was the starter relay but it might be something else. Sometimes when yopu go to fire the car up nothing happens there's no power anyware. The lights dont work, nothing electrical works. If you try to short out the starter relay the starter motor whir's into life but will not start the engine. You just have to wait till you get a sighn that the car has power again, ie the cd player comes on or the interiour light does. Then the car will fire up with one turn of the key. It seems to be totaly intermitant and chooses how long it will be out of action for, could be 10 min's could be half an hour. Luckly it never done it driving home. I must have covered 700 miles in it now with out a glitch. Now its stuck up the road and wont play ball what-so-ever. Could it be the saftey switch on the gear stick being out of adjustment? I have to fiddle with the gear stick to find the gear's when I drive off too? Any idea's would be great as I would lie to get the car away from the high street on a Friday Night

If nothing electrical at all works it is nothing to do with the neutral saftey switch. It has to be the main live from the battery to the whole system.
If the car has an ammeter in the dash chech the connection at the bulkhead as all the power goes through that one spade connector.
Check all the connections between the battery and everything else on the inner fender.
Check the earth from the battery to the chassis and the engine.

Just re-read your post. If the engine turns over when you short out the starter relay then you are getting power that far into the system. But if the ignition system is dead then of course the engine will not fire.
I think I would be checking bulkhead connections and anything to do with the ammeter in particular.

Yes, my Fury has a multi pin connector just above the pedals. A flat connector in black plastic ,the centre wire is a fat red one that seems to feed ign. and dash,h/lights etc. The tubular metal connecting pin has stretched and run loose ,heating the plug until the two halves fused together. The symptom was no power to anything, but intermittently sometimes would start fine then run with a misfire. I have cut the wire and bridged the connector,it's all ok now the ammeter doesn't show a discharge at tickover and the fuel guage reads higher

Just in the door this min. I could not see any problems under the dash. Though I have found two things. There is a small leak getting to some of the terminals by the CD player. I sorted them as best I could. This never made any difference. Mabey there's more wet wire's somethere?? The CD player has a perminent LED on. This is now flickering constantly along with a few other of the CD players lights. I had a look under the hood to see if the earth wire's look good. Had a layman's wiggle of them all and suddenly the CD player started to play. JUmped in the car and fired the moter up. DRove home and it fires up every time again!! Very weird, Ill have to have a proper look tomorrow.

You can get the connector but the terminals are all part of the wiring loom. you can wiggle them out using a midget screwdriver to unhook them then give them a good clean! Any news on the steering box/chassis leg? Glad you are having fun!

I think I might have exagerated a little there Kev. It seemed bad at the time but I think the play is about two inches each way now that Ive played around with the car. The car rides great at anty speed too.
The next problem is brake judder. At high speeds, ie above 50mph when you hit the brakes the whole front of the car shakes like mad, Im getting a lot of judder throught the front wheels. At low speed's the breaks are perfect. I guess I need new disks and pads? hey look fine as well, plenty of meat there.
