3D Printing

Post by xbrit »

Hi Guys, on the topic of 3D printing that was bought up by Derek Carter, I use V5 Catia a 3D software package used by all major aerospace and automotive company's, I am presently working for JLR and I use this system for concept and evaluation purposes. Most plastic parts can be manufactured by reverse engineering, assuming as you have the damaged parts. I was wondering if there was a requirement that MMA members could use for the future. I have the software and the skills to model parts but not the printer it self. Would this be some thing that could be useful?
A point to add anything can be modelled but 3D printing would only work on plastic parts, sheet metal can be modelled in a flat pattern and folded manually, complicated structural parts would work with 3 or 5 axes machines.
Cheers,

Not had a proper look yet but it looks like a bumper issue. I like the new "A cuppa with" articles, very good idea.

Hi. I was referring to the entire magazine rather than the 3D feature, which was very interesting in it’s own right.

Thanks for the further info on 3D printing xbrit - it's definitely going to be something of increasing assistance for old plastic parts so the more awareness raised the better.

I see this has morphed from a Connected 84 into 85 thread! Glad "A Cuppa with..." is going down well :D

I was thinking the same but couldnt work out how to do move your post safely!
I think this is an interesting subject in its own right which may be hidden within the current thread. :read2:
