engine mounts

Post by graham fury »

hi all I have a 66 Plymouth fury with a 318 poly wide block the problem I'm having is the drivers side engine mount I've replaced 7 in the last year. the only mounts I can get are anchor industries although there cheap I would have thought they should last a bit longer the last one was changed on Monday went for a drive today got cut up put my foot down to avoid the numpty and you've guessed it snapped motor mount maybe I should contact the Guinness book of records lol.
any ideas greatly appreciated many thanks graham

Maybe a torque strap or a solid mount on one side would sort you out.

I think I'm going to have to go down the solid route I was trying to avoid it in case of dibs but no one lists a neoprene mount for the car cheers

You could use the old racers trick of a piece of stout chain on the side thats pulling apart. It won't transmit vibration and if it's the right length it won't allow enough movement to break the mount.

anchor brand 2228 and 2227??

steel-rubber-steel sandwich

best bet might be to drill through and put in a bolt with big washers and a lock nut that can be done up to nearly snug.

i'd start at wickes and once id stretched one of their bolts move upwards on the quality front :)

achieves much the same as the expensive poly lock interlocking metal mounts you can get for later cars but with a £4 investment.
