..My new Green Meanie '72 Charger,...
.. Howdy again folks,..
Well now, deary me !.. I appear to have finally bought m'self a large, heavy slice
of glorious Mopar in the form of a 1972 Charger,..
It apparently started life in the Missouri plant , fitted with a 318 , and a light duty
box, but has ended-up with a 400ci and a 727,.. Both rebuilt before being shipped
to Blighty a couple of years ago,.. Not sure of HP or engine spec, but I shall endeavour
to contact previous owners to ascertain such info,..
The chap I bought it from yesterday had never driven-it more than five miles away from
his gaff, so it was a bit of an unknown quantity getting it down the M1 from Warwickshire to
SW London ,... The fuel and temp gauges didn't work, and the new fuel tank has a bit of an
issue as it dripped fuel and wets it'self when topped-up,.. ? I'll have to investigate.
(That said, it quite amazingly got me home with less than thirty quids worth of overpriced
motorway unleaded !!! ).
Regardless, it got me home via several service stations, ( where you'd think I'd landed on Earth
in a bright green space ship, judging by other people's reactions !!!! ).
It got a tad warm as I queued in traffic to get onto the A406 North Circular, and seemed to hesitate
a bit, but I headed for the Ace Cafe for a coffee and to let the green barge cool down a bit.
Got home at around 22:30 hours feeling very odd and unwell and after a bite to eat and an ale, ended-
up getting carted off to A&E , thinking I'd ended-up with monoxide poisoning, though after tests,
no poisoning was found, with the suspected reason for the illness being lingering food poising which I'd had
a week earlier, ( though I was almost convinced it was some manner of exhaust fume ingress into
the Charger's cock pit ! ).
I really must fix the fuel tank !...

Re: ..My new Green Meanie '72 Charger,...
the filler pipe usually goes through a rubber grommet into the tank
its a juggling act to get the tank onto the straps, clamped in a position that allows the bolted in fuel filler pipe to sit centrally enough in the big rubber grommet so it doesn't crush on 1 side a leak on the other.
the filler pipe has a bit of adjustment
the tank has a bit of adjustment fore and aft and side to side
the rubber seal/grommet could be made too hard or too soft
the edges of the hole in the new tank might be quite sharp or completely the wrong size and have ruined the rubbery bit the day it was installed.
or
the fuel sender outlet plate has a leaking seal
thats a bit of a pig to replace as well
or there is a hole in your tank
breathing petrol fumes will give you a whoozy sick feeling.... i used to have a VW beetle i felt slightly sick for ten years

.. Cheers, Dave,..
It's all an unknown quantity at the 'mo,.. I did end-up with an horrendous taste in my mouth last night,..
It wasn't classic monoxide poisoning symptoms,. No headache, etc,..
I'll have to have a proper look at what's going - on with the tank,. The bloody fuel gauge doesn't work
at all, so maybe a sender problem,.. And a leak from the installation, perhaps,..
It's potentially dangerous, so that'll be my first job,..
As you say, it might even be a defective new tank,.. !

Congratulations on your new purchase!
I am sure that will be a slippery slope of expenditure now!
I hope to see it at the EuroNats in July!
