Re: Firmfeel steering ?
AFAIK:
66-70 B-Body V8 K-Members will all interchange successfully
Whilst E-body, and 70-71 B Body K members will install on your car, the steering box will be mounted at the wrong angle
From what I read on the internet I suspect the larger spline pitman may require the later drag link and idler as well, but I have no actual personal experience of this.
<<67-72 manual and power boxes use the same pitman (small sector, early linkage)
73+ power steering (large sector, late linkage)
73+ manual (small sector, late linkage. This can also be used on a small sector power box to use a 73+ steering center link on an earlier car)
>>
I'd be tempted to get a large-spline pitman from somewhere and see what it looks like. I believe the retaining nut and washer are larger as well.
I'll check my stuff later and see if I have one.

Re: Firmfeel steering ?
'72 up Challenger / Cuda has a different Pitman and nut to a '70 - '71 from memory.... and thus different to "B" Body.... agree on the box angle too but not really material....

Re: Firmfeel steering ?
did you cut off your steering shaft? I can't see pictures at work.....
if not buy the kit from bergman auto you get the pot coupler and pipes in the kit.... no cutting no solid joint between box and steering shaft = long lived steering box bearings

Re: Firmfeel steering ?
Wasn't aware of the steering box angle difference between the early and later B/E K frame, handy to know.

Re: Firmfeel steering ?
Im not sure it is as the new box arrived and it's identical.
The only difference between a 1 1/4 box and 1 1/8 box aka (early / late) is the size of the output splines .. 1 1/4 and 1 1/8.

Re: Firmfeel steering ?
My review is good
The unit does what it says on the tin and really happy.
It’s lighter than I was expecting which is great as I love my PS
With no play I now feel I have more confidence to drive it quicker.
Great upgrade should have done it in the beginning

Re: Firmfeel steering ?
I cant believe you managed that 'in situ' ! Well done.
My rebuilt steering box is super light now but I wouldnt say the feel is any better. Good move i think.

The box is identical, it's the K-Frame that's different - the tabs mount the box at a slightly different angle.....autofetish wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 20 8:56 amIm not sure it is as the new box arrived and it's identical.
