Evening all
Can anyone help with wiring a new alternator please
I have a new alternator from Rock, it has three connections .
The main power cable and two spades.
My question is, what do I need to connect to what ?
I only have two wires in my loom, the large power cable and another small wire

From memory when I went through this I think it depends whether you have electronic ignition or points.
I seem to recall you can ground out one of the field wires to make it work like a 2 pin alternator.
There's plenty of info about, but dont worry - it can be done easy enough.

Re: Alternator wiring
It’s more spendy, but I can highly recommend a solid state voltage regulator for your set up. My 67 Coronet despite new battery, alternator and VR would barely charge and the VR took a dump soon after. Fitted a solid state regulator and now have 13.5 volts at idle. Really improved the running, at one point my spark was dropping with the old set up due to lack of sufficient charge.
Re: Alternator wiring
I went through all this on my car and can't believe how much I've forgotten. Typical.
There are lots of easy diagrams to follow on the net. I went over to electronic ignition (GM HEI), constant 12V coil (MSD Blasterr 2), solid state voltage regulator and a twin field alternator. East to wire up and more reliable. I got rid of my ballast resistor too.
I also put an extra earth strap from the bottom alternator mounting bolt to the body just as belt and braces.
