I just replaced the tank on the Challenger due to the original one leaking whilst in France, corroded through on a bottom rib near some old damage.
New tank has a much flatter top, which made me realise that the old tank had collapsed inwards at the top.
I suspect this is vacuuming as I had blocked up the emission pipework that went to a charcoal filter under the boot, and removed the filter when I restored the car.
It is a 73 so had smog gear on it and four emission pipes out of the tank. These are capped during manufacture with rubber caps, so I have removed one for now, but might need to do a bit more than just leave them open.
I suspect that I might either need to reinstate the filter and pipework or possibly get a vented fuel cap to prevent this happening again.
Has anyone else had issues like this?
I never had a running problem or starvation due to vacuum in the tank.
