Ok 3 plus years later and the base coat is on. Work on the Charger stopped completely for at least 18 months while I fixed a rotten MK2 Scirocco for my son.

So l ended up painting the Charger satin black to try and save time and just get the car back on the road and hated it so sanded it back down and started again.
It needed a lot more work before I could put the turquoise on and it's now as good as I can get it in such a small garage.

I put the base coat on last weekend after sealing with 989 epoxy primer.
It looked perfect so I applied the base coat.
I had to flatten this back down as the finish was too rough and had some dirt nibs. While sanding I realised I should have sanded the epoxy sealer down before as well before applying the base.

I ended up turning the fluid and pressure right down and got much better results with less overspray and less wastage.

I got the base coat on yesterday and am quite happy with it considering that the garage is so small. I'm sure that once it's out in the daylight I will see something I've missed or an area that could be much better. I wouldn't be surprised if there are some darker areas on the roof but I've done my best. I did some drop coats to try and get an even finish. My technique probably wasn't very good so I'm just hoping that it looks ok once the clear is on.

I think I have enough colour on now so am going to quit while I'm ahead and apply the clear coat tonight.

My extractor fans that aren't really up to job can't clear the overspray quick enough so some turquoise coloured dust has settled on the car.

I think newsatten said I could tack rag when he gave me some advice previously but many people say never to touch the final coat of metallic before clearing.

I was thinking I could use the spray gun without anything in it to evenly blow the dust away and maybe even apply a light coat of coloured thinners but I'm thinking this will undo the drop coat.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated although if you're reading this after 7pm tonight Sunday 19th I've probably already started applying the clear and any problems will be locked in.

I'm glad I didn't put the clear on last night as l needed to add a bit more base to the bottom of both doors and top of drivers rear quarter.

I blew the dust off the roof but it looked like some remained so gave that another coat.
My concern is that it looks a bit dry now where as the engine bay has more shine to it. I don't know if the dry appearance will disappear once the clear goes on.
If it looks awful she's getting patina'd!

I put the clear on last night. I'm happy with it considering the working conditions I had to deal with.
The gloss is lovely. Little bit of texture here and there to sand back but unfortunately there are a lot of dirt nibs that I hope will mostly polish out.

Here's some pics that make it look better than it really is :D

Nice work and a great colour too, I’d be more than happy with that.

Thanks fellas.
Hopefully I have put enough base coat on and it will look ok in the daylight. If not I'm not going to worry about it as the plan is to use this car as much as possible rather than just take it to car shows.
