Re: a bit of this and a bit of that
back to the model 'A', last night i collected the polybushes and sleeves for the panhard bar from my mate at rally design. it's handy as i call them and he brings what i need home, i give him the cash to take in the next day and i haven't had to go to the other side of whitstable myself. the problem with me collecting them is mcdonalds is just round the corner from rally design so it adds £20-30 to the cost of the parts .
so today we made a 'tower' to bolt to existing holes on the exploder diff housing with brackets attached. then chassis brackets so the bar could be measured and everything tacked together. lasstly we found a bit of old thin box to knock up a couple of mockup coilovers set at the right length for ride height.

Re: a bit of this and a bit of that
today we made the coilover mounts, top's are a length of tube through the new crossmember and bottom the usual 3 hole hang off the back of the axle deal. we incorporated the lower 4 link brackets into these to reduce the amount of brackets a bit. we need to weld the chassis ends and the panhard bar ends now and that only leaves the caliper brackets to make. the templates will be handy as i'll use them for my nash which is getting the same setup.

Re: a bit of this and a bit of that
today we finished all the welding...... well nearly all. we can't make the 2 caliper brackets yet as we (me) forgot to order brake pads which hold the caliper centred over the disc while the brackets are templated, doh! oh well 2-3 days the ebay ad says, so we should still have them made and the rear axle refitted so the chassis can go back this weekend coming. i'll try to tie up dropping this off with collecting the 32 coupe that's next.

Re: a bit of this and a bit of that
i forgot to say i had to order a new cordless drill as my old (bought in 2013) dewalt 18v died the other day. i'd been looking recently as the chuck 'head bearings' were getting worn and after my recent chewalt purchases i went again with one of them. it's both slightly smaller and hence lighter as are the new dewalt ones. however the new dewalt ones aren't ?21.49 so.....

Re: a bit of this and a bit of that
the brake pads didn't arrive so all we got done was the spacers etc for the coilovers and hung the axle back in place. never mind, it all needs doing

Re: a bit of this and a bit of that
that one's all done ready to go back tomorrow. we welded the other caliper bracket in place and reassembled both sides. a quick sweep up and put all the tools away and that's that for today.

I’ll give you your due, you’re always busy fabricating & doing work on your cars. Nice job

Re: a bit of this and a bit of that
the 32's here and up at a workable height. the wiring is atrocious, worse than i remember even. i know he wants to sell it but i think a new 'kit car' type loom may be the best way forward. pics soon.
next.... remember i mentioned a mk2 zodiac? i'm going to look at it tomorrow with a view to having a deal. he wants welding doing to a henry j he's after so i also need to look at that tomorrow.
oh and after the 32 we have a mk3 zephyr in to fit a 3.0 v6 and auto box and get it running/driving.
oh and ash's engine still needs building for his mk3 zephyr too.
oh and i still want to get on with my nash.

Re: a bit of this and a bit of that
well i had a deal with my mate and i now own a mk2 zodiac. the welding on the henry j isn't as bad as we thought so we'll help him with fitting the running gear too. it does mean there'll be another henry j gasser with a big block in the uk which has to be a good thing right?

Re: a bit of this and a bit of that
so after staring under/behind the dash for a while (30 seconds at least) we unbolted the dash, unscrewed the fuse box from the bulkhead and flopped it all onto the floor.... much better. then we unpicked the wiring from the indicator stalk and the 7 core cables going to the front and rear lights. next we slung a battery inside and tested/marked what everything (front and back) was connected to. we ended up with a bird's nest of spare wires in a box with more to come as the rear 7 core was added to replace what the car was built with..... that's still hanging under the floor. hopefully the new loom kit will arrive tomorrow and we can start redoing it all, neatly this time though.

Re: a bit of this and a bit of that
we got some more done today on the rewire. the new fuse/relay panel is mounted inside the bulkhead pass' side where access is good while still out of sight. the 'instructions' and i use that word loosely that came with the loom were as good as always these days. nothing to show which fuse does what for just one example, plus what diagram there was showed numbered wires coming from the panel and what they do but there are no numbers on the panel. so we had to power up the panel and as the wires are marked with what they do we could pull fuses one at a time and mark what fuse did what in a new diagram we drew. next we tested the various switches including the ignition switch to see what connections do what and mark them too, also with more diagrams. oh, and we tested the wiper motor which surprisingly works. more soon.....
