No more trunk action until the weekend, but a great leap forward on the roof last night.

Spent an evening watching and learning whilst my very good friend Mr P lead lined the roof seams. Never seen this done in the flesh before, was great to watch the process first hand. I worry that skills like these will be lost as we have less and less traditional craftsmen with willing yoofs to pass on their knowledge to.

Anyway, a bitterly cold evening was spent drinking tea and handing various pots and tools to Mr P while he worked his magic. Hand finished and shaped, ready for a final fettle and prep when it’s time for paint.

The likes of Brooklands are still teaching apprentices traditional metalworking skills, the problem is outside of restoration those skills are no longer needed in everyday life as far as I know. Its great you’ve got the people around you that can do this stuff, its going to be a very nice car at the end of it for sure.

Yep, this one is definitely the keeper. As you know, it was never intended to go to these depths, but I decided I don’t want to do it twice, so do it right it is.

It’s beginning to feel daunting the amount of reassembly and parts clean up there is to do, once it’s painted though…

Not exactly crazy progress today, but took advantage of the milder day and got the front fenders off. I’d been unsure of doing this originally, as I was worried about the sealed edges mis-shaping, but as it happens they came off relatively easily, barring a few rusted and rounded bolts.

I’m glad I removed them now, as I think they’ve been caught just in time. Going from the inside and the sealant and filler used to bodge them in was thick and covering the start of some more serious rusting.

Now that they are off, I’ll get busy grinding everything back while our man gets busy with the welder again.

Looking at the rest of the floor, these thin flaps of metal were on the drivers side, presumably to cover the wiring running the length of the car to the rear. Only tacked in a couple of places and bent over, so they are coming away anyway.

Are these standard, does anyone know, or just something that’s been added over the years?

Yeah, we've got something like that on our Plymouth, exactly as you say, covering the wiring that goes the inner sill area

Yes just wining covers, I do away with them usually.

They have pretty much done away with themselves, as they are all falling off, so I think I will just pull them and lay carpet back over the wiring.
