Australian starter motors

Post by Dave999 »

If your car had
or you are using a 14(6?) tooth ring gear from an australian car

25mm 9 tooth thin gear bosch, gear about 1/4 inch front to back
27mm 10 tooth fat gear bosch with offset shaft and different gearing pinion gear 3/8 or more front to back

(both used in the same application in different years)

the first was standard on hemi 6 and 318
the second was updated heavy duty version on hemi 6 and 318
both did the same job

you can now buy something like this and remove the USA 35mm pinion

and use this pinion on it CW version to make it do the same job as your bosch

if you Australian Mopar had a 727 in most cases it uses a USA sized pinion andsthe starter motor will just work without change

This is what we need to do as both our hemi 6 and 318 have Aussie gearboxes (1 4 speed, 1 BW auto) and we only have one starter that fits both cars. Thanks very much for the info Dave.

yes looks like the "experimental" 25 mm 9 tooth pinion i extracted out of WOSP 5-10 years ago actually became a product.
i spent weeks sending them details on australian spec starters from the workshop manual and any website i could find with a specification, and got a pinion for my efforts.... :)

https://www.wosperformance.co.uk/search ... oth%2025mm

this used to be the only easily available option

https://www.wosperformance.co.uk/spares ... tooth+25mm

and you had to put in a spacer the thickness of the base of the pinion to get it to work

so this short version with a skirt like the mopar orginal is quite useful

and looky here.... Mr WOSP finally got there.......

WOSP are great but we know there are cheaper ways....
