Re: Johnny's Dart repairs
I checking through all the parts I bought 10 years ago.
I have a 4.2 band apply lever, and a Chinese accumulator kit.
Do I use both ?
Or just one or the other.

Getting ready for the strip down , all washed off.
I wish I knew who Molly was, this came in the car when I imported it, she must be in America , the car came from Arazona .when I removed it , I saw the writing on top of it

The numbers on the box point to it being a 1976 heavy-duty van/truck.
It dies have 4 pinion planetary's, so that's a result.

Just looking though all the parts I bought 10 years ago
I bought a kick down band, but I don't know if it was a performance one or not, can any one tell by the colour of the lining , or part number ?
The raybestos one is the one I took out , that was flaring 1 to 2 changes.

Re: Johnny's Dart repairs
Good luck with this. I will have a go at most things and would do as you are doing too if I had to but all due respect for getting stuck in
I always think there is a huge pile of special Mopar tools needed but apparently not. Lots of Youtube stuff on rebuilds and luckly Blue and Cannonball on here are very skilled at this work for advice. Cant wait to see how you progress....cheers

Thank you, I'm a semi retired fleet mechanic, so do have some insight , but I've never had an auto apart before.
So it will be fun, I'm going to do some upgrades as well.

Re: Johnny's Dart repairs
You are more than capable I would say. I did bike gearboxes when I was in my early teens with my dad. I learned quickly to be meticulously clean in the shed and to take each piece out and lay them in order exactly as they came off. If I had done loads, I could have used experience and just wash the bits all in the same bucket we used but we always did the bits one by one and in order. Even the thrust washers etc. My first one was a Honda SL125 that we bought for £20 as a box of bits. Haynes manual exploded diagrams to the rescue and we put it all back together and it worked! Bit different to a 727 but I guess the same principles apply (cleanliness, methodical practices, bag and tag etc).
If I did mine it would be my excuse to buy a compressor and airline

Will this band work ok with my 727 upgrades? is it just a standard one ? or is it a heavy duty one ?
I bought it over 10 years ago , I can't find the receipt, I've no idea what I bought
Please see pictures in above earlier post.

Will do, thanks
Re: Johnny's Dart repairs
Yes thats a standard band, fine for your needs. Its known as a wrap band as opposed to a rigid band (like the rear one} which these transmissions originally had.

What fluid would be best, Dexron 2 ?
Apologies for the questions, and probably a lot more

Re: Johnny's Dart repairs
Be sure to pull out the rear band anchor pin and replace its O ring, it’s a favorite for leaking. I smear some decent silicone sealer on the O ring when re installing and then cover the end of the pin with a layer of silicone once its in, I don’t use silicone anywhere else. Note which way the band anchor is installed, Its large radius to the band. It will install backwards but then you won’t be able to get the rear drum back in. I always do the sprag oiling mod which will be in your book, you need to do that while the case is bare.
