Re: Blue's Barracuda
Block is stripped and all the main oil galleries at the back opened up to 1/2”, main bearing feeds reamed out. It only had half grooved bearings, I’ll go with fully grooved. Unknown roller cam turned out to be a Crane, more suited to circle track use with a lot more compression than this engine will have so unlikely I’ll re use it. Big ‘ol deburring session next.

Meanwhile, back at the oil pan…
Todays job was making a trap door, it opens on acceleration and closes on braking in order to keep the pickup covered. It needs to move swiftly with oil surge so the door itself is aluminium rolled loosly around a steel rod to act as a sloppy hinge. It moves very freely and shouldn’t become jammed. I’ll fine tune the location before welding it in.

Re: Blue's Barracuda
Finishing off mods to the oil pump. There's just enough”meat” to drill and tap the existing pick up port to 1/2” NPT, up from the stock 3/8” NPT. The 1/2” pick up tube narrows down considerably when it enters the pump, this will give me 1/2’ all the way in and out of the pump now. I spent some time deburring the ports and I think thats as much as I need to do. I’ll have to be careful not to split the pump body when installing the pickup but I have an idea for that.

Re: Blue's Barracuda
In the search for just a bit more out of the current combination, I’ve borrowed some race headers for the Euronats. My street headers are 1-5/8” stepping up to 1-3/4” with a 3” collector, the race headers are 1-7/8” all the way to 3-1/2” collectors. Hopefully they’ll be more efficient at taking out the trash..
