Hot Rod Drags 2026

Blinding event! Though not officially an NSS event, there were about 20 (mostly Mopar) of us there so the Pod let us run as a class. The amount of people wanting to do RWYB at these events has seriously declined in the last couple of years, so they come looking for the likes of us to put on some entertainment. I got through to the semi's and would have been in the final had it not been my bad decision to lift too early to avoid breaking out. Car decided to start overfuelling on Sunday which we weren't able to totally fix but it performed flawlessly other than that. Also ran a new PB of 10.85, and a 1.42 60ft which is really moving for what the car is. Thanks as ever to the people around me that help get me there, you know who you are!

And as ever if you've never seen the class race, come on down and see what a bunch of largely street driven cars are really capable of.

It would be great if they make this a NSS event. I couldn't make it due to crew issues this year but it's my least favorite of the 4 due to RWYB getting always bumped if there are delays and wasted time in the pairing lanes / getting stuck in lanes over lunch break etc. I know in the past some of us have been stuck in the lanes for literally hours in this event over the years. The costs work out more as well with no crew tickets and having to buy 3 x RWYB tickets if you want to run each day.

Just as an after thought to this.. Who makes the decision on if it is to become a NSS event? Is it the NSRA or Santa Pod?

Santa Pod make the decisions and it’s sounding like NSS will be getting a spot at the Hot Rod Drags in future, watch this space. Hardly anyone is doing RWYB at these events now, I’ve barely queued at all this past year.

10 full passes on the Friday, after that we were called to the line for allotted Runs.

We have been waiting for years for this - in fact from the inception of NSS, but always blocked by NSRA for some reason....

That's what I had figured. I guess the NSRA have always been keen to keep it a Hot Rod event. Well lets hope that the lure of 30/40 more cars at the event will help Santa Pod make the right decision.

Trouble is there’s very few what you’d call hot rods doing RWYB these days even the flathead snoredown doesn’t happen anymore.

I would argue that the "organised classes" that have always run there are not "Hot Rods" in any case, the "Gasher Circus" being probably the nearest, but again that is subjective and a matter of opinion.
