Old Ads

For various reasons (the tracking down of old Aus Ford ads/tests/dealers) I have won a batch of old UK 'Motor' magazines from 1973 to 1976.

I am still going through them all, but this page caught my eye.

Some of you (okay, us old farts) may remember the form 'Motor' magazine took by putting adverts for new and used cars and dealers at the back. Now, if you look closely (tricky, I know) at the above page ... a coouple of things leap out.

Amazing Sandy - thanks for sharing :P

Wonder what happened to those 440-6 Cuda's? One of them was loaded: electric windows and aerial, leather seats. Rare options if they were factory fitted. The other one also had electric windows - could it have been the same car?

Jim had a 440-6 Cuda in the 70's. Wasn't that a GY3 (Curious Yellow) 71?

The only 71 440-6 that I know of in th UK now is Richard Ward's GB5 manual car (1 of 109).

I used to drive past Simpsons of Wembley every day...it's only looking back at those ads that you realise what was for sale and how little it is by today's standards.

A 440+6 Cuda for £1600!

Brilliant stuff Sandy...by the way, still haven't received my ICI password yet!

Someone took me to a used American car showroom in London once.

It would be around late 1978 or early 1979 I think. I have no idea where in London this was but there was a showroom and a few back rooms full of cars. There was even a few outside and around the back.

A guy I was working with wanted to look at a Chevy 4x4 but was also considering a muscle car. I remember they had an orange Firebird 400 and a dark green or black '68 Mustang because that was what we looked at in particular.

I always wondered where that was. I will probably never know. But it was heaven for me at that age. :)

If you cast your mind back Dave, I think Simpsons had the equivalnt of about four shop fronts and they were set back a long way from the high street by a wide expanse of pavement...does that ring any bells Dave?
