I like it because they won a trophy and don't look like they have much money and spent everything on the car. The one on the left is the mechanic, dirty hands and jeans. A bit "Two lane Blacktop" feel.Sandy wrote:Hi Dunc,Cannonball wrote:Why ???Sandy wrote:Just the coolest racing/car/people photo ever:-
Because I am a romantic fart growing old and to me it symbolises everything that I always thought was so cool and great about American cars, racing and culture.
And I can see it all there:- it's the very early seventies, the trauma of Vietnam is passing, a couple of guys, maybe brothers, built their 66 Chevelle (The original blue collar musclecar, long before the Roadrunner was a twinkling in Chrysler's eye) with who knows what (you have a choice of either of the two great American V8's) under the hood, brought it to their local track near Anytown, raced it through the day and won the trophy (and it really looks like how a trophy should look) and now they are about to head home and the pits are emptying (just look at the cars in the background; Charger, AMX, Gen 2 Camaro, Mustang) and someone walks by and says let me take a photo and the girl (sister/girlfriend) takes the trophy and smiles at the camera because she is happy (they have won or at last the day is done and she can get home or just because girls always smile at the camera) but the guys are too cool for school and it don't mean nothing, man, but we'll humour y'all and pose, and a moment in time is captured, but we'll be back next week doing it all again.
It is 'Racing in the streets' by Brucey made real (except it is a 66 not a 69).
Maybe only I see it so I guess I am just growing old and misty eyed....
I think she's the driver, and that's her brother and her boyfriend.Sandy wrote:Just the coolest racing/car/people photo ever:-
