Oh balls, don't be throwing doubt in my mind again mate!
I've screwed the bolt into the end of the cam with the dished washer so it pulls the gear onto the cam. I can't remember now but the gear must sit against a flange or shoulder on the cam? Anyway the chain lines up and there's no fore/aft play so I'm sure it's right now.

Re: db's 66 Belvedere
Well I'm VERY happy and not a little surprised to report that my first drive of the Belve since rebuilding the motor was a complete success
NO cockups, nothing fell off, I remembered to pre-pump the oil, I got the oil pump drive and dissy in the right position first time, it started instantly and kept running, I just had to tweak the timing 10 degrees or so. I hooned up and down the A55 from junction to junction half a dozen times, including a nitrous run for the last blast under the tunnel. No breakdowns, no horrible noises and NO LEAKS! Not a single drip.
It didn't want to idle when I was parking it up, probably just needs some fine tuning. Happy days

Re: db's 66 Belvedere
Well after lots of happy miles, it's time for the lifters to raise their ugly head again. This time several are getting destroyed by the pushrod so it's a new set of both and some serious investigation.

Lifters ordered from Hausers this morning, Geoff says he's never come across this issue before...

Re: db's 66 Belvedere
odd....
bad batch or something somewhere is binding or being pushed beyond where it wants to go?
or is it a hangover from the loose sprocket incident? i could imagine the little metering plates in pushrod seat taking a battering
paint a line on each pushrod and spin it over by hand and see if they turn, lifter and pushrod should turn, so if the pushrod is turning the liter is definitely turning more than it. lifter face, lifter seat, pushrod ends and rocker seat protected... if they don't summat is wrong........
i had one that didn't the lifter semed slightly fatter than all the rest might have had a ding in it.... but as i had to buy 16 in order to fit 12 i had a mix n match session where i found one that slide down the hole without getting stuck at the bottom. can take em out the side of the block on a six which is Handy...
i dare say if i'd run it the thing would probably have loosened up but i was being mega cautious, which made little difference as i screwed up numerous other things

Re: db's 66 Belvedere
Lifters arrived yesterday, I'm hoping for nice weather tomorrow so I can get stuck in.
I think it's a hangup from before Dave, it's the exact same problem. Being both a cheapskate and an optimist I only replaced one lifter last time.
I think I learned a little lesson there

Re: db's 66 Belvedere
Happy to report the cam bolt was tight. Clearly the damage had been done before, I just didn't check thoroughly enough. Lessons learned and all that...
Time to drop in the new lifters, get the covers back on and oil tight and measure up for pushrods
