I'm sure there used to be one of these search type thingys where you only had to enter the reg no, and not the make
Useful for checking if a particular reg exists without knowing what car it's on

Yes, it used to tell you more details, like the date of the last owner change, but not any more.

yes i seem to recall one like that wern't it an RAC on line check or something

I also remember one that showed you where the tax was last bought (prob before it was available online) - handy for locating roughly where a car currently is...

Good to see the DVLAs new tax system is working. NOT!
I bought a car on Friday, taxed it online same day yet it still shows online today as being on SORN. Was out in the car all weekend, assume if I'd got a tug plod would have said it was untaxed/sorned

In case of stuff like this happening I use my I phone to tax mine. Dvla send a confirmation email which I can show road side if I did get pulled in
