I have now got the quote for my new pistons.
The original pistons were gas ported and wondered about the merits of this feature.
so the question is "to gas port or not" that is the question

To save all that clicking . . .

Yes, I would gas port, as done previously ;) I guess your still using custom pistons, so gas port cost is not really an issue & in consequential really

Yes Mark still going Venola but bore now 4.450 and looking to use low friction rings.
also looking for a dry sump oiling system

More out of curiosity, what dry sump systems you looking out ?

I looked into Dry sumps recently, was looking at 3 & 4 Stage systems. They can work out pretty expensive unless you can get hold of a 2nd hand unit.

I decided to put it on the back burner for a while, as I had a few essentials with higher priorities I needed. Also there's plenty of high HP running without them & 'touchwood' oiling has not been a problem for me so far.

Thats not to say, I won't go that route at some time.

Never heard of gas ports before!
I love finding out about techy stuff like this for the 1st time, especially when it's explained well like that :thumbright:

H Paul, I agree I spent an hour going through all the other tech stuff on the site and it makes interesting reading the guys obviousley have a great amount of knowledge and experience and they explain things in a way Dumbo's like me can understand :thumbright:
Mark checking out the dry sump oiling on summit they work out very expensive and the pipes and fittings swill tank, heaters and breathers all add to the costly add on but after my oiling issues last time out I figure I must sort it out or I will be back where I started.
I found some cheaper 2nd hand options on USA e bag here are a couple.

What do you mean did I sort it out ?

I worked it out at the time, all my docs for this motor were all in a large ring binder - which included, invoices, pamplhets, guarantees, engine spec, clearances, etc which I gave to the 1st buyer called Tufty.

For what ever reason, this did not appear to be transferred from seller to seller ? ? ?

I will check to see if I have any info still on my PC

That's what meant Mark if you worked it out at the time then I have a chance it is right as I have sent one of the original pistons to Venola as a sample.
I will still check but at least I know I am in the right ballpark
Cheers :thumbright:
