Cause were anal, plain and simple, I got it from my brother he was really anal,he for instance would clock all the phillips head screws so they are all at 12 ,and 6 o'clock,all of them, he had bf good rich tires all the b,s line up with the valve stem..............yea we are crazy my mate came over while I was sanding on the under side of the hood, he said "you do know that is the under side of the hood don't you?" You have to get things correct in engineering like you have to in your profession, it doesn't make sense does it?

Ok on to the front latch area,I bonded in the steel part from the original hood as there are no provisions to attach the hood latch and safety catch .
It looked ok but began to crack ,and the main problem is the factory threaded area broke underneath , they drilled it of center and made a weak point on one side and it finally broke after 45 years.
I didnt want to have to cut it all out and find another hood to cut,so I decided to just make an access hole ,and use a nut and a bolt, and then put a plug in it . and if one of the other threads break it will be easier to fix them
Got that done and now have 3 layers of glass on the whole area,and will soon be off to paint.
Ugg this is grueling ,and time consuming but since it is a re do I dont want to have to do this again.

Wow 2 years was my last post, hahaha, well we bought the car in 1999, so I hope to get it done this summer,I did get it out worked out some bugs, still here, just have not had time to get to it

Ok after a long wait,I finally got sick of looking at the cheap job I did trying to make the trim along the front and rear glass look modern, it just never looked good so I had to pull the glass (yep broke the front never can get those out with out cracking it) , and also had to replace the clips that hold the factory trim in place,and then I got the side glass trim in,and it all went fairly well, and then I washed it, and it failed the water test, the trunk ,it was wet from a list of things, the tail lights, I took some black silicone and made a bead around the out side trim/housing,and a bead on the gasket, I left those to dry over night so as to have an o ring seal and I also used a product called caulk seal , much like oilclay or putty but comes in strips (some call it dum dum),I am sure those of you that have dissembled these cars has gotten in on your hands pretty, sticky stuff it does its job well .
The next area I noticed is the actual clips that hold in said trim ,are held in by self tapping screws,(as seen in pix) well those all leak too ,small but over time this was a huge problem with these cars,(other car makers welded in their clips),I sealed them up on top and on the bottom inside the trunk, that is now sealed and also I have a wing type spoiler and that too will get some strip caulk along the gasket.
Now to the front I noticed a small leak inside the left and right corners below the windshield ,and those screws that hold the trim in on the corners and along the top of the cowl those will leak and need to be sealed up with strip caulk,,pix shown , the corners we notorious for leaking in to the cowl and interior and cause rust issues , this car was one of the , you could see the cowl was rusted,and it all started in the corners under the trim held on by a screw, and if someone did the windshield and did not properly seal it back up ,it would leak and slowly rot the car out .
I have not had time to do a water test yet, but when I do I will post up here, I have turned my attention to the interior, and the stereo will be the next task

On to the tunes, we dont need a thumpinh stereo just a simple head unit and 4 speakers will do, I did fab up a part ,the plastic bezel/panel that hold the factory radio, would need to be cut up and ti flimsy to hold a modern head unit in the dash, I went to a local plastic store found a nice thick piece of plastic 2 foot by 4 feet plenty to work with,for 6 bucks, and I traced out the design from the old one, did a little acrylic work,and painted it with wrinkle finish and once installed I didnt have to cut up anything from the factory it is nice an sanitary,and is very sturdy to hold the head unit in place
