Faux: the antonym of genuine

Well, looks like Faux will be in the paint-shop soon so its time to ramp up the refurbishment of the parts collection in anticipation of refitting.

One of the main things my car was still missing was the frame onto which the dash board components would be mounted but this has now been resolved (Thanks Dunc).

The frame was sand blasted and, after stripping the existing black paint from the ashtray and glove-box door (revealing traces of the original blue underneath) , the whole assembly was painted. I'll reassemble before giving it a final coat so the finish is consistent.

You may have noticed a distinct lack of activity on this thread in recent months. Well, Faux went to be painted on/around Sept 15 although I was aware at the time that work wouldn't start for a few months.

However it became apparent after a while that there were other jobs which seemed to be taking priority. This didn't really concern me (as it wasn't costing me anything while it was there) but by about June 16 it became clear that the paintshop didn't actually want to paint it so we agreed that I would remove the car. Faux was then moved to storage so I could review options.

Well, this has been done and I've a new bodyshop lined up (who are actually keen to do the work) so I'm looking forward to seeing a painted shell in the new year. Fingers crossed.

How time flies. Faux has previously been "resting" with my chosen body-shop for a while (the trouble with using a marque specialist is that small insurance jobs tend to jump the queue) but we now have progress.

The shell has been media blasted and a few more rust patches/pinholes have come to light, notably a ping-pong ball sized hole above the headlight on the l/h side and a dent in the middle of the top of the r/h front wing - this wasn't really a surprise as there was a distortion on the inside edge - but all have now been sorted.

Accordingly, there has been a lot of filling/sanding/filling (8 litres of white polyester spray filler to be exact)/sanding/before the black primer.

Nice to see the project going again, when you look at the dates it is a little shocking,but as you said time flies ,but looking good, get some paint on it and it will really start to look like a car again,good luck have fun

Couple of pictures of the car with the black primer applied. This was done pretty much immediately after the polyester filler was applied to avoid micro-blistering in the final coat.
