not sure if i'll be there now somethings cropped up , as for the Charger , that bloody thing , been one thing after another this last 7 months, bloody jinxed , new rear flexi brake & power steering pressure pipes were seeping fluid , been on there a few years but , all were all new parts , going back after the resto , ! but leaking all ready , prolly made in china or mexico Bananarama!!! the killer bit is or was , the originals were ok , & just changed them cause they were the originals !! then , puddle of water under the car one morning , one of the heater hose connections that screws into the water pump housing , was split , that was another new part going back at the time of the resto , how that happen ? could not see why it would split on its own !! , replaced that , then done a cam swap last september / october , got advance curve dialed in with gay gears , , thought i'm good to go , just before christmas fired it up to let it run etc , something crapped out in the NEW well recent alternator , power surge or something , & two of the fuses blew , that i have protected every thing with , thought ha , it works all these extra fuses , no damage , just alternator , well before the fuse blew , it took out the tick tock tach clock , looked inside clock , the power surge blew & melted the voltage regulator/inverter thingy inside , ( happened to a few in the US too , by all accounts , emailed who i got the tic tock tach from , the company who made the inverters has discontinued them , but he was kind enough to tell me how to get round the problem , as i could not find any other type on the net , so fixed that , put it all back , all good , every thing A1 ,
went to fire it up , go for mot , would not start , running ok day before , was magnetic pick up in distributor , replaced that , back running a1 , then a random miss fire , Bananarama! , everything new when i done the cam , jacked it up put it on stands , started taking the plugs out , knew it was on the driver side bank , no1 plug ok , 3 ok , number 5 !! no sooner as i put the socket on , & went to turn it , it felt loose , the whole ceramic insulator fell off , no biggie had this happen before , took plug out , (Bananarama! )the cermic around the electrode tip , was missing , had it broke & fallen off when motor was running , or just happened , turned the motor over to tdc on 5 with a torch & mirrors , & panicing trying to see if i can see any thing , in theroy if just broken off , would see it soon as piston comes up to tdc , still no see it , then i put a small diameter pipe on a vacume cleaner , & tried to suck any thing up that was in there , nothing , now got to take cylinder head off & have a look whats happening , made a start , manifolds off , intake off , water drained, i'm dreading what i'll find
wonder if any one want to swap the charger for a new ZL1 camero just kidding , but damn this cars jinxed all of a sudden

yeah i know ! thanks Mate ,
no trouble for yonks then bam all at once , except faulty rebuilt turned out to be a re-CON as in rip off !! steering box from a well known US restoration parts supplier at the begining of assembly!! , it looked iffy taking it out the box , they painted over greese & mud never a good sign) , ( should just put a seal kit in my original , ) the recon box i had was anoying problem , fitted it , correct fluid , bled etc , A ok , seemed ok all the while i was putting the rest of the car together & moving it about to test etcetc , first time took it out soon as the engine warmed up or should i say the powersteering fluid , would loose power steering , thought i know ! wonder if the box needs adjusting , nope still the same , then i thought cant be the steering box , must be the power steering pump , two new rebuilt steering pumps ( don't ask long story ) , plus rebuilding my original pump , still the same Bananarama! , thought i know will try transmision fluid , instead of the propper mopar stuff , still the same !! put the original steering box on ,with the original pipes , apart from leaking like seive & filling my original power steering pump i just rebuilt with rusty sludgy fluid , worked perfect , bit the bullit & ordered up a FFI firm feel box , been perfect ever since , good people , should of ordered from firm feel industries in the first place , any way getting back to the plug ceramic tip thingy , not done any more yet , ordered up a few bits & bobs ,

Sorry to read about your bad luck at the moment Steve, happends to us all mate, if it wasnt for the bad luck I wouldnt have any luck at all. And I could fall into a barrel of tits and still come out sucking my thumb Hang in there mate.

thanks Carl , yeah i know the feeling , bloody murphys & sodds law are my best mates
just for the crack , & my own curiosity ! i put that supposadly rebuilt box on again , just to see , noo i'm not into S & M had stuff appart already cause i was switching back to cast iron manifolds , then again same deal , worked perfect till it warmed up ie normal engine opperating tempreture , then no power steering , but holding revs at 3 grand there was ever so slight assistance , asked on a number of sites , don't seem like anyone has any ideas , i know enough to take power boxes appart & replace seals etc , but not to identify faulty parts or things not right , suppose i could take the original appart & have them side by side to compare but by then was sick of the site of steering boxes & pumps & smell of power steering fluid & ATF

yeah i know , thought of every thing , pipes collapsing / expanding too much & reducing pressure , every thing , will look into it one day , its up in the loft of the garage now , get it out my sight , so i'm not reminded how much it cost & with shipping & bloody customs & Bananarama! vat ,

any one with any ideas on the the power steering box problem , be greatfull of any idea or input

Power steering pump pressure valve sticking fluid thins when it warms up so loses pressure, I had this problem on my 71 Charger. Overhall pump might just be the valve spring in the pump weak.

good you sorted yours out !! that was my thinking first of all , steering pump , tried three , two new remanufactured ones from the US & my original pump , all three had their own pressure valve with them, so no common part to swap over & tried various combinations too ,((( bit of useless info saginaw pumps are the same in infact as on 2..8 i capris & later MK2 28.2.3 grandas & MK4 & 5 V6 cortinas albe it later housing & different pully shaft , but the pump will inter change .)) had to rebuild my original twice , well second time take it apart & clean it all out etc , cause when i tried the original box & filled it with rusty fluid & sludge , even though i flushed it out as best as i could before trying it but as full of Bananarama! as it was & leaking , steering worked perfect , tried the remanufactured pumps with the original box , prefect , then had to take them appart to cleaned out the dirty fluid , new o ring kits again ! not really nessary if they are new o rings or recent & things have not been over torqued . , but i never take chances .
no 1 liter bottles of power steering fluid for me , just bought a 25 litre jobbie
when i got the FFI firm feel industries box , just for the crack again tried all three pumps again , once i had cleaned them out & put new orings back in them , what do you know all three perfect , steering perfect!!

getting a bit side tracked now , i normaly do
tell you what i did come across with all this , i found unusual , the instructions in both the remanufactured pumps said use correct power steering fluid , & not ATF , when i took the pumps appart they had been assembled with ATF & could clearly see & smell it in there !!
also with the pump seal kit it says use ATF both work difference is ATF is liable to foam up , thats why , if your running hydro boost braking system , they tell you to use the correct powersteering fluid , cause of foaming. , also if you mix power steering fluid & ATF together ie not flush one or other out before changing , the fluid turns into a whiteish pink milk shake looking liquid till it heats up !!
also the suposadly rebuilt recon box from the US was full of ATF , yet the box from firm feel , had the propper clear powersteering fluid in it ,
waffling on now, & what fluid is used has / had nothing to do with box problem , just thought i would mention what i found !! but by the end of all this i needed a
