Because that's all you need and higher pressures just cost horsepower and create control issues for no benefit.

agreed, i've always been told (and read) that 10 psi for every 1,000 rpm is all you need.
neil.

Yep, and if you put an oil pressure gauge on a modern car that's about what you get.

that's all you get out of a hemi 6
blueprinted pump and clearances as per the book

10lb/inch at idle when hot and not much more than 50 anywhere else as the bypass kicks in

any higher and you wind the impellor or drive gear off the shaft

small block pressures always seem astronomical but the pump interior is the same for standard pumps on both motors

longer engine with more bearings i guess has an impact, 7 mains and six journals 5 cam and oil through pushrods

I bet it’s the oil through pushrods that cause the loss of pressure, assume it’s full time oiling? The V8’s oil via the cam and only get oil once every other fortnight....

yeah my rocker tin has a clean spray mark above each rocker

i.e it fountains out. fills the rocker trunnion well and gets flung all over. originally ball stud pressed steel rockers like a chevy so i guess needed all the help they could get

and goes back down some big old holes to the bottom.

I presume this to indicate method to the madness... i have flow...... and that's what counts

Still cracking on, just not much worth posting about. Rotating assembly has been balanced, block has been hot tanked and I'm on with painting the inside with Glytal. This is 2 coats, I'll give it a third Tomorrow and call it done.

Nice one Blue, well worth doing.
I have my old 383 short block torn down for rebuild and will be doing this + oiling mods too.

What does the magic red paint do ?

Stop rust and help oil slide ?

it's paint designed for use on electric motors, very tough stuff. Once applied to a spotlessly clean surface it flows into the rough cast iron to leave a hard smooth shiny finish, great for oil return and clean up is so much easier if it has to be torn down again, and yes it protects against rust. You will read as much negative as you will positive about it on the net, I found out about it in the '70s and have used it on my builds ever since.
