Hi guys,

Suspension time for the Dart.
I'm looking at uprating my torsion bars, replacing the shocks and maybe rear springs on the car.

Am I right to think that I simply measure with a caliper the diameter of my existing torsion bar to find out what 'rate' is fitted to my car currently? It handles like a drunk P&O ferry at the moment.

The short answer is "Yes".

It may have the original /6 bars in it if it was originally built for track use.

Does it have a Sway bar / Anti-roll bar on the front? That will make a massive difference on the road, but would hurt performance on the drag track.

It has no ARB's at the moment, I missed that on my list of things to do think you can buy kits that bolt on/require minimal welding.

I'll get under the car and measure it up.

Personally, I would not bother with a rear one, but a front one will make a lot of difference in terms of pitch and roll in corners and changes in directions such as roundabouts.

Jon, are you investing tubular UCAs? Firm Feel do them with correct camber built in. Most on mblist of things to do and they will help prevent that wandering feeling up front.
Firm Feel do the torsion bars, too.
You running a big block, right?
No wonder it's bouncy with /6 bars on it.

I'm with Pete get a decent anti-roll bar set up on the front. Then maybe look at some stiffer (slower reacting) torsion bars along with double adjustable shocks all around to control compression and rebound, as the bars alone will not cure a bouncy suspension.

I would have a look at the hotchkis suspension kits availabe for your car if you want to go the pro touring route.

Yes it can be made better but don't forget your Dart will never handle anything like your Escort
