slapstick question .....

Post by Garp »

Evening all,
I've only just found out whilst reading some gumph on the net about the apparent "slapstick" ability of my shifter - totally explains why I've seem 3 speed autos with Tach meters in them.
Do all of the T-shaped shifters have this function or is it only if i says "slapstick" below 1st gear selection ?
I don't want to try, take off with my foot down in 1st, hit the shifter and do nowt except stress the crap out of the engine !
Either way, if I haven't got one ...... I want one just to up the fun factor - Dunc' ?.
Thanks chaps

If it's a slapstick, you should be able to shift it without the motor running, so no chance of damage to your engine. Slap shift, is basically a Mopar term for a ratchet shifter

A word of caution...

I was showing off in my genuine #'s Matching T/A and I shifted from 1st to reverse!!!! Brown Trouser moment and should NOT happen - but it did!

Make sure the shifter you have is fully serviceable before you start having fun!

Slap stick was an option, put the stick in 1st, without touching the button slap it forward it should go no further than 2nd, same again for 3rd.you don't need the engine running to test if you have one. You will find 'em on ebay but like most things E body they command a high price.

I have one in my car but the plastoic handle is a bit flimsy and if I slap it it jams the button and I cant get it out of gear. I thibk the grub screw is the wrong szie and catching the rod inside.

as others said, try it with engine off, it should work.

Thanks for the info - went to the car and tried it and it works as intended.
Thankfully it steps through nicely but stops at drive.
Had the car so long and never knew about it. Good thing is I can get another gauge up there ! Tach gauge with shift light wooohooo.
