I would probably like the film if was still a nipper.

I enjoyed it as simple entertainment which is all rather far fetched but features some great muscle cars.
I think there was a storyline of sorts, but the cars make it.
The 71 GTX is fabulous.

You'd have to tie me to a chair and tape my eyes open to get me to watch that.

Maybe ive changed as Ive got older or films have changed but action films are just way OTT now, are the film writers taking the Bananarama! out of us or do they cater for the moron population ?

Films like this are just not aimed at our demographic Andy, 16 -25 is the age range, so it has to appeal to the video gamer, it's about the only thing they seem to have any attention span for. I also hate CGI, it should be used sparingly to enhance not replace film wholesale.

lots of explosions, fire and special effects but not much else really other than the cars.(oh & very OTT)

Cannot compare it to films such as the original Gone in 60 seconds, to name just one, in respect the driving scenes and stunts were actually performed by real drivers in real cars. As far as i am concerened.

Good old H&S and Insurance for A list Celebs make real stunts a non starter these days. Which like many here, I feel is a great shame. I hate CGI in car films!!

And for that very reason its funny you should mention HB Halicki. As he died during the making of Gone in 60 Seconds 2.
Hit a water tower with A 'Semi' Truck as part of the action, tower came down and hit a power line or telegraph wire. As he fled the truck the wire got him!

The best film classics back in the day were made in the same era as the cars were. The cars were the stars.

You cant bring it back imo, although good to see recognition of the same era cars being used. Far to much CGI, wheres the soul gone?

Not the crap remake. How that garbage spawned an industry creating Eleanor clones is beyond my understanding.

It's probably more like the Marvel approach...

The audience is 'in' on the idea that this is all a bit too far-fetched and silly but is prepared to go along for the ride just for the fun of it.

When done well, it's great fun. When poorly executed it's dull and looks really lame.

At least they're not trying to tell us how to live our lives (well, except the whole 'family' theme!) and don't get all mawkish about stuff.

I'd rather watch this again than "Lincoln"!

I rather like the Fast And Furious movies. The first couple of sequels sucked, but Fast 5, 6, and 7 were a riot. Sure they're ridiculous, but they're fun, and thats what they're supposed to be. If you're just going to sit there with your arms folded and scoff your way through it, then don't bother.
And i'm sorry but Vin Diesel has had some proper bad ass, knee trembling B bodies in those movies.

The Blu Rays are also excellent, with stunning technical merits on my home cinema system, but thats another discussion altogether.
