What's gone wrong here?
Well after waiting months and spending $$$$ for my fan clutch, fan, studs, nuts, blah to replace my plastic fan the last part arrive yesterday.
Into the garage and after 20mins spannering out comes the offending fan in goes the new set up, or not. It won't clear the radiator FFS.
All parts ordered correct for year and model, newly rebuild radiator seems off the core support by an inch, rad is for a C body, any ideas?

Re: What's gone wrong here?
Update, it's the clutch. The wrong code is stated by the supplier, looks like I need to order another.

That unlucky. When I ordered mine I found one advertised with the stated length, but if the wrong one is in the box
Good news is that they're excellent at their job. Almost never seen mine over 195 on the hottest day in static traffic. Runs at about 170-180 all the time.

check under top pulley
supposed to have a shim inside the top hat between it and the water pump
has it been replaced with something too fat to make up for mis alignment with bottom pulley or alternator....

Finally, after a load of research, managed to get a new Hayden HD unit aimed at B Body Mopars with a short shaft, perfect fit. Rockauto stocked it and it only cost me £60 delivered to the door and took less than 7 days to arrive, result!!!

Re: What's gone wrong here?
Hi Dave, that looks like a right result, well done!
Rob & I had the same problem with our Satellite.
How much shorter is the new clutch shaft? Was it just the shaft you changed, or did it come with a new clutch for £60?
Do you know what part number you ordered?
questions, questions.
Cheers,
Stuart.

Re: What's gone wrong here?
Don't want to wee on your cornflakes, but those HD fan clutches are meant for motorhomes and the like. They retain their viscosity to a higher temp, and are designed for lower rpm. I found out the hard way when my new HD clutch kept shredding fan belts on the motorway. Like you, the replacement I ordered had too long a snout, and I finished up getting a 3rd one in the States.
Re: What's gone wrong here?
Great, Hayden specified for use in big block muscle cars, they even use the image of a Roadrunner to sell it. I’d better get a supply of fan belts in.

Re: What's gone wrong here?
I've got that big clutch fan. Three years and no problems with belts. Great cooling, too. Raced it and done 5 hour journeys without fault so far.
That said, there is a touch of play in mine. Just wonder if that led to earlier demise of my water pump than expected? Can't be sure either way.

Re: What's gone wrong here?
Me too, apart from no issues with water pump, which, is a Milodon high flow pump. The Hayden unit comes with a brass/ bronze bush for correct fit. Jag XJ6 is same length snout without the bush though. Bit of a struggle to get the bolts in eh Jim ( Challenger)?MilesnMiles wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 17 4:07 pm I've got that big clutch fan.
