Car has a stripe on the boot and down the bonnet. Was hoping it was going to be vynil. Unfortunately it's paint and I want it gone. Is there any mild paint stripper or remover that will take it off without affecting the paint underneath. Looking at it, it is satin black sprayed over the laquered body topcoat. If needs be I will have to go the whole panel respray. Any body men any ideas . Thanks.

Leave it be, you will not fetch that off without damage to the gold, i reckon it looks ok, if not u need a good guy that can match the paint, good luck,,

Agree with Dunc.

Is it what id want/put on the car......No.
Does it ruin the car in question.......No.

Think id live with it for a bit before spending the money (maybe other issues that need ££££).

If the bottom line is you’ll have the panel painted anyway then I’d first try some wet and dry starting with a fine grade to see how thick it is, if successful then compound and polish should bring the shine back. Alternatively use compound like G3 or even some T Cut to attempt removal,if you’ve got an electric mop with a foam head this will help with the elbow grease angle greatly. If that fails then I would be tempted to try a small area with thinners just to see,it could be a one way trip but I have had success removing aerosoled paint without damage to the original paint underneath it in the past.ultimately it will come down to how well the Gold has been applied compared to the black.

I think it suits the car personally but it’s not mine is it ?

Mmm food for thought there. Will maybe leave for a bit and see if I get used to it.
As I said ,the black looks like an after thought after the gold. Some has "chipped" of with my finger nail and there shiny gold underneath.
Thanks for the comments.

It is personal taste, I would prefer it without the stripe if it were my car, but you could grow to like it - it really does not look that bad; and it is part of the car's character. At least you have a great car! 8-)

If it’ll chip off then a decent pressure washer might shift it.

I was out in the Garage earlier and came across my Toffee wheel. I’ve used this to good effect when removing vinyl stripes from various cars I’ve had, really good on those brittle and baked on ones. Mine came from Wurth and goes in a household drill.

I don't think it looks too bad at all... as said you may come to like it. You could just black the whole hood or do something creative in black vinyl to the gold areas...

Those toffee wheels are fantastic for vinyl, I removed bonnet stripes on Mandie's mini cooper with one, and it doesn't touch the paint, however I don't think they will do paint alone, unless its been badly prepped, in which case it might work, but again, once you start you have to finish.

When I was a student I bought an old volvo 850 to get me by. Some plum had touched a chip in on the wing mirror, gone overboard and then painted the whole bloody mirror with a touch up pen. It looked terrible. To compound their idiocy, they pulled the same stunt on the other mirror!
2 hours with t cut and a cloth they both came up mint. If you could find the patience to sit there doing a couple of hours a day for a couple of weeks I'm sure you could achieve the same result?

sounds exactly like mine was when i bought it, front cowl, rear deck and trunk lid all had satin black over lacquer

try thinners, maybe on an unobtrusive area first

i'd got it all off the same evening i bought the car, t-cut and polish after, still ok 11 years later

If the paint below is nice and flat, wet blocking with 1200 grit will most likely remove it. Had to do loads of that on the Barracuda where they've blown in half the panel in the wrong shade just to cover a small repair.
