Nostalgia blown Daimler Hemi slingshot
So, just as a very initial running ideas around in my head sort of enquiry.
To satisfy a bit of an obsession I've had for a great many years now.
Supposing I wanted to build a blown nostalgia slingshot dragster from scratch, who would I go to for advice?
I have a welder and I'm just looking into chassis plans at the mo...
And steel suppliers... https://proformancemetals.co.uk/product ... teel-tube/

Re: Slingshot build advice
I think the biggest question is "What are you going to do with it?"
Is this a build exercise, or do you intend running it in a class or just RWYB?
There is lots of guidance on the NHRA site in terms of specification.
It is probably cheaper to buy a part built or get a second hand one.
Transporting one and storing one is also a key issue.
That is why I went for an "Altered" as they are much more manageable.

Can’t help on what you’ve asked Paul , but keep your eye on eBay.
I also have a “ thing” for slingshots.
Seen a few go at a good price

Re: Nostalgia slingshot build advice
My mate Dan who now owns my Truk is an expert welder and wants to build the chassis for free, so that's an offer that's hard to refuse.
As long as I build a fairly short one storage won't be a problem and Dan will be able to build/modify a trailer for transport.
I have the perfect tow/ push-start vehicle
Initial thoughts are that like to do 4-6 events a year, ryb to start with and if I find I can actually drive the thing, race it.

Re: Nostalgia slingshot build advice
I think the first thing to do would be to work out which class it would fit into, get the regs for that class and build to suit. Paul on here is involved with a slingshot and might be able to advise. For correct engine placement you need either a "shorty" transmission or you might be considering direct drive, this is something you need to decide on before you start building. Cars of this type of construction don't tend to lend themselves to changing plans as you go along which is why I wouldn't advise buying a used chassis. Also, just in case you've been kidding yourself you can build a car like this on the cheap, you can't, it will be a sizeable investment. Oh and push starts were made illegal about a million years ago...

Thanks Blue, yeah I'm under no illusions about the cost both to build and run something like this!
Thanks for the pointers on where to get the info from.
I can still push the thing around the pits though can't I?

Re: Nostalgia slingshot build advice
You tow around the pits, pushing dragsters with another vehicle is dangerous, you'll find various photos on the net where the push vehicle has driven over the top of the dragster when something has gone wrong.

This looks helpful, I know it's 8 years old but it gives me a good idea of the sort of stuff I'll need to think about.

Re: Nostalgia slingshot build advice
Looks like a Buick Nailhead with a blower running off the front of the crank, quite a common way of doing it way back when.
