Matt put up an excellent piece in "Connected" a while back that explained the current situation.
Worth checking the back issues, it was relatively recent.

He and I discussed a similar issue yesterday, and in essence I think you are stuck with the "Q".

This question came up a while ago on one of the bike forums and I think the answer was that if you could verify the manufacturing date then it was possible to get an age-related reg :) - but it depended on who at the dvla was dealing with the application.
Maybe phone dvla and ask them?

Rule was always that if on a Q plate , the only way of getting age related was the first registered keeper applying within a year of the Q plate being issued. This rule was ignored for years and many Q plates were successfully removed with help from my letters proving age (including Pete's Superbird).

However DVLA sent out a letter to all authorised club officials highlighting the rules and reinforcing them.

In summary, unlikely you'll get it changed but worth applying and see what is said. The staff at DVLA may be understanding, depending who you get.

I've just managed a 1936 Plymouth proof of age.

regardless of the 'q' reg you should still be able to get free road tax if you can prove the car was 'manufactured' over 40 years ago despite the date of uk registration being after that.
neil.
