How is it possible for ancient civilisations with nothing more than basic tools be able to create these? Anyone prepared to hazard an answer?

I've been lucky enough to go to some of those places.
The fortress and the 11 sided stone in Cuzco Peru are cool - the whole ancient bits are built like this. The amazing bit is that this makes them earthquake proof - every so often there is an earthquake, all the modern stuff falls down exposing the old walls which are untouched. At least thats what we were told.

Historians only assume what happened in the past, from the evidence that they can gather.
There's a lot of things we don't know / have the evidence to prove different !!!!
