Finally escaped!!!
Well, after years of dreaming and the fat end of 15 months selling my flat in Birmingham and buying a new place in Scotland....I've done it!!! Cheers everyone!

Thanks gents and yes Derek, we spoke about it at the NEC a while ago and it's an itch I've needed to scratch for a while now. I was born in Falkirk and moved to Birmingham in the early 80s. My career is done now and I'm enjoying retirement but dont want to see my days out in a flat in the city. I want peace and quiet.
The house is an old schoolhall, dating back to around 1820 and is near Port William in Dumfries and Galloway. It was converted to a residence about 30 years ago but still retains some old original features. I wish the beach views were from my windows but it's only a few minutes away. I had noisy and inconsiderate neighbours at my flat so it's nice to be somewhere that's silent. It's great being able to hear my telly at night!
I have room to store my car there on the driveway and may just have enough room to eventually build a garage at the back. It's not high on my list of priorities and will be happy to just have the Polara there to use. Plenty of quiet coast roads here though they are a bit narrow.
Cheers Steve

Thanks Pete. It is a bit!
I am eternally grateful for your advice as a friend on this Pete. Our chat over a coffee at the NEC last year really helped me to decide what was the best thing to do. It's easy to see everything through rose tinted glasses at times, and you kept my feet on the ground. I'm happy my decision is based on everything I needed to base it on and its definately made with one eye on future as well as my circumstances at the moment.
Cheers....and I raise a glass of Belgian beer to you!

Anytime Will...more than welcome my friend! I will do a flyer for the neighbours to make sure they are not alarmed when a jet bike comes down the lane!

Rather you than me but it does look very nice! Glad you've got what you wanted, I've had my unfair share of inconsiderate neighbors in flats too so I can imagine your relief.

Yeah Blue, it's a bit of 'each to their own' as they say. I can understand why it's some people's nightmare but I have no desire to be in a city anymore. The silence and tranquility is overwhelming and the fact that the nearest supermarket is 17 miles away just adds to the appeal for me. I refuse to go to my grave wondering what it would be like to live like this so here goes!! It's nice not having the neighbours kids deciding what time I wake up in the morning!

Really great to hear Steve! The house looks really good.
Spent some summers down there with relations at Ravenstone farm as a kid - it's very nice down there.
Just keep following / living the dream.
Congrats!
