Re: Floyd Brothers 70 Challenger
Hmmm… that’s an idea I like the sound of.
Pretty sure I’ll take it tomorrow, I carry a can in the boot anyway, so will see what happens.
I think it’s sealed the deal that the engine and trans are coming out, though.

24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence? I think not…

Re: Floyd Brothers 70 Challenger
Slow day today, for a change, so went for a small project.
Bought some stickers for my fire extinguishers, but they were too small to cover the original print, so ordered a roll of vinyl off Amazon.
Long story cut short, I’ve learned a lot about working with vinyl sheet, but the first one has come out ok. Pretty sure I can make a better job of the second one.
One wrap wasn’t enough, you could still see the print through it, so I went for another. Could still see the blue, so three wraps did it, followed by the sticker. I quite like it, even though the red isn’t a great colour match.

Re: Floyd Brothers 70 Challenger
Bit of sunshine, so thought I’d spend it in a gloomy cold unit getting some jobs knocked off.
I’ve been getting heartily sick of fighting to get the battery out or disconnected over the past few years, so decided to get a better solution.
A previous owner had put a whacking big plastic battery box right under the rear wing, meaning you couldn’t get to the clips to undo the box and once you did, it was a pain in the arse to get it far enough out to wrench the battery out.
I found a nice lockdown plate on eBay, so emptied the boot to fit that. Only trouble was I’d forgotten the horror of all the big ‘oles said previous owner had drilled in the boot floor and left open, that I discovered a while ago upon realising the trunk was filling with water from below, not above…

Re: Floyd Brothers 70 Challenger
So instead of getting a job finished, I’ve spent the afternoon cleaning up the offending area, fashioning some bits of ali and Tiger Sealing them in place.
Definitely not making Metal-worker of the year anytime soon, but I’ve only got some tin snips and files and hammers and whatever I can use to bend metal round, so it is what it is.
Stuck waiting for that to cure now, so I can spray over it tomorrow and leave to dry, so no getting the simple job done after all. Still, at least it won’t fill with water now. Not on that side, at least…
Don’t judge me, perfectionists and metal gurus, It’s a bugger all budget build in a metal shed! Keeping it alive.

That’s how the Americans fix rust…

Re: Floyd Brothers 70 Challenger
I Won’t ruin your day by telling you the battery normally goes on the other side to offset the drivers weight when you relocate it…

Re: Floyd Brothers 70 Challenger
Also, if the battery is left exposed be sure to fit some rubber covers over the terminals, otherwise if something mettalic in the boot was to bridge the terminals, like a bit of camping gear, your day would go well…

Re: Floyd Brothers 70 Challenger
Yes, already sorting some rubber covers, not risking that.
The ali bits aren’t really my idea of a permanent fix, but until I can afford to have it done properly, it will have to do. The amount of spectacular Bananarama! - wittery I’ve uncovered all round, it’s no surprise the battery is where it is, but as I’m built like a racing snake ( ) anyway, not going to worry too much about that. I’d sooner have it up front, to be honest. Never going to be a race car, so would be a damn sight easier.
I don’t think the original Fella really had any particular vision of what he was trying to build, to be blunt. Mish mash of all sorts of random stuff.
