Might just be a valve core, one of mine failed at the track as you know.

Still feeling crook and scuppered by my failure to make sure I had header gaskets on the shelf #-o I turned my attention back to the rear lights for something light to do. :boomboom:

I was reasonably pleased with my previous LED indicator fix, but ballsed up by not realising that when I put the brakes on, the LEDs weren’t visible. Or been quite happy since.

Back to my original plan of using the redundant flat part of the lens. I want a stock look from outside, no bolt on mini lights or anything.

Turn away if easily offended by cutting parts up…

After some careful consideration and measuring, I decided there was just enough gap behind the light cluster to fit the LED board, set about the cluster with a dremmell. :-#

Pleased with the result, won’t need to cut the car itself, which I didn’t want to do, other than a very small hole for the wires to come through.

Just need to cut some rubber or similar to go behind the LED board, so it doesn’t sit on the metal of the body and I should be able to call that job done.

This all means the indicator LEDs are completely confined, so there won’t be any light contamination like there was. Nice and safe and clear to see, but will look bone stock from the outside.

I can feel the hate for cutting the clusters already… :P

Works… sort of.

I’ve managed to burn a few of the LEDs, so they now lighting up amber, which then shows red through the lens.

Once I get a replacement bright yellow, they will look fine. Just need to figure out what went wrong to cause the smoke and stink my unit out. :-k

green led's when seen through a red lens show as amber :thumbright:
oh, and can you still see enough of the red reflector 'function' as that's where your led's are now?

Yes, no problem with the reflector. Just need to understand what I did that suddenly caused the fire. :?

The yellow LEDs were perfect prior to that, came through bang on amber, just don’t now that I’ve fried them.

Back to it after an enforced break by life, work and health!

Gentle start today, out with the old, in with the new.

Today, I have mostly been… scraping! :help:

It’s always bugged me that the underside of the bonnet has been coated in what looks like underseal, followed by over spray and topped off by being melted in some places and flaking everywhere. Embarrassing to say the least when you have the hood up doing anything and people come for a nose.

Finally got round to attacking it for round 1 today.

Much scraping later and at least the majority is now clear of all the worst crud. Next up, need to get busy with the sandpaper. I’m going to have a go at spraying this myself, see if I can learn a new skill. :read2:

I’m going to have a go at this myself, I’ve invested in a spray gun and going to have a go at learning a new Skill. I reckon it will be a worthwhile one to learn, given the whole thing will need doing at some point!

I’ll certainly be taking Mr P’s advice on how to do it, though! :thumbright:

It’s not that hard to get a decent finish that’s good enough under hood, painting bodywork proper takes a lot more practice!

That’s pretty much why I decided to have a go. I figured it won’t be that noticeable unless it really draws the eye, like the horrible mess it was does.

Best place I can think of to have a go, other than in the boot! :D
