Inline fuel tap.

Looking for advice please.

Been thinking about this whole 'ethanol in fuel' lark and was considering putting a fuel tap into the rubber fuel pipe just prior to the carb on my car. My thoughts are that I can leave the car running, flick the tap off, then let the carb drain of fuel before switching the engine off. I'm wondering if this will stop the fuel that is lying inside damaging the internals of the carb? I've changed all of my rubber lines to ethanol resistant.

Any thoughts appreciated...cheers Steve :thumbright:

You could achieve much the same thing by gently clamping to rubber pipe to the carb until the engine runs out of fuel.

A good point Blue, thanks! What are your thoughts on leaving the carb dry?

in some respects its a no win situation, as I think the Viton seals in the float chamber can dry out and cause problems if there is no fuel.

In line Fuel filters are useful in keeping the dirt out of the Float bowls, which I think is the biggest issue.

If in doubt, fill up with E5 and go the regular maintenance and just use the car!

That's interesting Pete, thanks for your input. I'm using the car weekly so the carb won't sit dry for long. I suppose as you say, there are good and bad points on both sides. I'm using Frosts Ethomix additive with Shell super unleaded at the moment. Perhaps this is a case of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it's

Personally I’d leave things alone and see if a problem develops, if not problem solved!

Cheers Blue, your advice combined with Petes has put me off the idea. I'm not experiencing any fuel issues so think this idea may be tinkering for the sake of it if I'm not careful.

but if its hidden does work as a security device

anyone nicks it is only going 1/2 a mile or less before before you catch up with them to "have a word"

obvioulsy if they plan their theft they will bring a truck but the oportunist would be stymied

It had crossed my mind Dave. And if the carb is dry, it's no miles....this is like that fast show sketch.....
