My New Ride

Post by James Doyle »

After going to Barton Bridge meet the other week and impressed with cars and the friendly vibe I've decide yo join my brother and buy an American I've gone for a 1968 Plymouth Roadrunner 383 in hemi orange, purchasing it from Paul Lawrence in Colchester and he couldn't be more helpful, I'm sure with yhe amount of cars he has you've come across him but can't recommend highly enough.

Thank you for your comments I'm very happy needs a little doing to it headliner rear bumper chroming and upgrade to disc brakes but my cars are drivers not concourse as I want to get out behind the wheel and not worried about stone chips.

Hope to be at the next meet in it

Great looking car. And Hemi Orange :) .

I got my car off Paul too. He was right, 100% rot free car. Very honest and easy to deal with.

Thanks for the pics, she really is a beauty. Looks very straight and original. My stupid fixation on all things original says debadge the battery and apply a Mopar battery decal kit, painted valve covers and an original aircleaner but she is great as she is.

Love the colour coded steels and dogdishes, a great look. Satin black wheels are great to in my opinion but that look and stance you have is just superb.

Im sure you have a list of stuff you want to do to keep her running well but if you havent considered it, I would recommend splitting your bulkhead connector and spending a good afternoon cleaning it all out (both sides) and packing it with Dow Corning dielectric grease. You wont regret it as they are a bit of a weak point.

Just looking at the pics, does she have electronic ignition? I ask as I can see the ballast resistor is bypassed but theres an old style black voltage regulator. If you are still on points, a good upgrade is to GM style HEI (again just my opinion). Its easy to do and relatively inexpensive. A few people have had issues with Mopar period style electronic ignition modules, hence the GM suggestion.

Another good idea is to do a bulkhead bypass in the charging system (plenty of instruction on here) and also to convert your headlights to a relay system. You can make this up with just a couple of relays and some new wires. Just takes the headlight power out of the switch / dash and the switch is just used to trigger the relays.

Im very average at best with stuff but managed all of these conversions with help from the experts on here.

That bulkead connector can be a big problem point so if you only do one thing, I would suggest a meticulous clean etc.

Would love to see some pics of her out and about as and when you get a chance and once again, a superb car!!!!
