Bryan's 62 Plymouth
No bosses in at work today, so took the opportunity to work on the car.
The headliner needed some attention so decided to take it down and re install it with a base layer of silent coat. Stripped it out and wire brushed the roof. Primered the roof with red oxide paint as that’s all I had, not sure if that was a good move, time will tell. I’ll try and get a few hours putting the silent coat on tomorrow. Swapped out the horrendous bumper bolts for some stainless steel domed bolts that I polished to a shine. Did a steering wheel swap as well to get rid of the bling one that was on there but I also need to a bit more on that tomorrow.

Re: Bryan's 62 Plymouth
Removed a cover today to reveal the electrics. This will be getting the it attention deserves once an original instrument cluster arrives from the states.

Re: Bryan's 62 Plymouth
A great looking car this

Re: Bryan's 62 Plymouth
Silent coat, is that the heat/sound material. Have it on the floor of the Dart, works well for the heat but not much for the noise, or am I just getting old.
Re: Bryan's 62 Plymouth
Yes thats correct. Couldn't really think of what else to use on the roof under the headliner.
Re: Bryan's 62 Plymouth
Hmm, I wouldn’t be happy with that wiring either, mind you it would have been much worse if the Americans had been at it.

Re: Bryan's 62 Plymouth
Now that I’ve put the original instrument cluster back in, I’m hoping the original fuel gauge will work with correct sender. I have ordered the correct sender but one of the previous owners cut a hole in the top of the tank to fit a Stewart Warner sender. I’ll be putting the new sender back in its original position which leaves me with what to do about the whole at the top once the other sender is removed. I’ve read welding is risky for obvious reasons but it can be purged with an inert gas and welded or maybe something like JB weld ?
Anyone been in a similar situation…what did you do?
Thank you..Bryan.

Re: Bryan's 62 Plymouth
Can you not just leave the redundant sender in the tank as a plug? You won’t find many people willing to put heat on a fuel tank.

Re: Bryan's 62 Plymouth
I could do but would need to remove the sender to confirm how long the float arm is, as it’s adjustable from 6 - 12” according to Stewart Warner. I might just bite the bullet and order a new tank through Chris Goodale.
This is what I found when I removed the ‘chrome dome’ that was screwed to the middle of the trunk floor

Re: Bryan's 62 Plymouth
Probably your best bet, a new tank won’t cost fortunes through Chris, it would be my preferred option. There’s certainly been some choice “workmanship” on that car!

You’re not wrong John.
Just been on Rockauto…. £210 delivered for a new tank, it a no brainer

Re: Bryan's 62 Plymouth
It may be worth getting the rubber gland from the Filler neck to the tank at the same time....
